What actually are they doing to the canal? Presumably someone has a plan which includes all that dredging and the building at the north end. Handy to have a quay to tie up to while waiting for the bridge though ...

Allegedly there is a plan to build a ferry terminal there. Don't see it myself, as the silting will be a problem. The amount of silt deposited east of the nice new yellow beacons is shaping up to be a problem before too long.....

The beacons each lie at the northern extremities of 3 banks of deposited rock. These are presumably placed to create deposition to the east of each bank . . . keeping deposition clear of the canal entrance.

Errm. So don't take a short cut inside the markers if coming from the west!

Only trouble is that it's not working. When we came through (north to south) about two weeks back there was a good deep channel fairly close into the markers. Coming back to the north a couple of days back, you could see sandy trails building up under the surface along the lines of the old spit.......

Which is pretty inevitable with longshore drift.
Hope the consulting engineers have enough insurance to pay for dredging in perpetuity.

Odd isn't it... so someone somewhere thinks that Lefkas is sufficiently different to Preveza that midi cruise ships are going to call there if they invest a huge amount of (?) European money providing a dock at the north? Okay so then in this magical scheme they're going to paddle off down the canal creating havoc for us all? Or what? Why else dredge the wo

I like Lefkas town but it's already so full of yachts and people we never seem to stop there these days preferring Paleros (and Panorama's curry) instead.

bridge is now GONE and has been replaced with a car ferry which cars etc have to drive through, the times that were every hour on the hour as before have now also changed.

Probably quicker to sail round via Vassilikki now !!!!
