Lee cloths

I've occasionally had to spend unpleasant nights at anchor or on a mooring where the yacht has rolled so badly that lee-cloths have been necessary! :(

Last winter in Gosport Marina we had a night when we were getting rolled around a fair bit!

May I suggest not screwing them down on the lower side but making them removable? Mine run under the bunk cushion and lash to a batten on the outboard side of the bunk. Just chuck them in the washing machine.

And there’s no such thing as a too deep leecloth.

Agree. Mine are lashed to eyelets making them removable. Essential cruising kit.

Ours are wooden!on the Fulmar they have a useful system where the back of the normal bench seat becomes the lee cloth, slotting inot 2 grooves at the end of the seat / Berth, not only do you get a lee cloth the bunk then becomes a little wider stretching under the shelve above.

Yes; great system, very comfortable. Also on the Discus I think?

After nine years of owning the current boat - my first without lee cloths, it’s only this year I wished I had them. Until now the standard charter layout of twin double aft cabins has meant that the one or two people off watch either rest against the centre bulkhead or the hull side with our sunlounger cushions as vertical mattresses against the low side.

But this season has been a season of rolling. Underway. At anchor. In one marina. Now thinking about a Lee cloth split in each aft cabin as the bunk cushions are split length ways anyway.

I made one like that on our GK29. One was enough as only the two of us and small children at the time. We preferred them to cloth ones.
