led lights polarity

I have fitted an led cluster lamp and was surprissed that it functioned regardless to polarity. Am I being stupid?

No, many LED clusters have circuitry to compensate for reverse polarity - some also have transient protection.

Many lamp sockets are wired backwards, because with incandescents it didn't matter. So it's helpful for LED lamp makers to add a couple of diodes or whatever to make their units work either way round.

A bridge rectifer, as used to recitfy AC to DC, built into the lamp or bulb, will allow connection regardless of polarity.
