LED flexible ribbon lights

I've had a lot of success with the 12v output version of these

They are sealed and shielded units.

I formed a main feed for all of Cariads lighting with one ( and keep a spare on board ) and it feeds Nav lights, tricolour and anchor, motoring, cabin and cockpit lighting and the led gooseneck lamp over the chart table. Not had an LED blow yet.
 
The talk above is why I like the serially controlled LEDs. They do need 5v to run on but each LED is 'intelligent' and has its own current limiting built in. The only trick is you need to know how to drive them.
