Elessar - I like the idea of a set of switches to control zones of the cabin and will look at options. Are you happy that the additional wiring doesn't suffer a significant voltage drop?

totally. Voltage drop is caused by the resistance in the cable and is proportional to the square of the current flow. The current needed for LEDs is so low that if you use cable that is thick enough to handle, say 5A cable, the voltage drop is for all practical purposes zero.
