At the end of last year (Oct/Nov ish) there was an article in, I think, the PBO new products feature, on LED cabin lights. Unfortuately I didn't keep the magazine.

Does anyone have the article and if so what was the name and ph number of the chap selling them. They looked very good and at the same price or cheaper than halogen units.

Thanks and regards Nick

LED's are cropping up everywhere at the moment, but I can't really see them offering adequate cabin lighting quite yet. The best bet I see at present is a 20w (the smallest available) 12v dichroic halogen lamp (the 50mm round glass sort).
(less than £1 from ScewFix). Don't run them with the battery on charge however....they're not very tolerant of over voltage.

The breakthrough is at hand.

Had a meeting with a friend who is sales manager of a midlands lighting manufacturer and supplier. Can't say too much because it is in the confidential stage at the moment. However look at the Land rover stand at the next motor show for VERY bright dichroic replacement LED lamps giving pure white output by virtue of a chip that controls a cluster of different colour ampules. Same light output at <20% consumption of an incandescent. They are soon to develop a replacement for the two pin mini 10w & 5W halogen quartz lamps we are using in our saloon fittings. Watch yachting press. There wiull be a story soon.

My Bavaria 42 has 24 mini halogens which when all turned on draw 11.7amps. This will cut to 2.7amps - I am getting some pre production samples!

Just to give you some idea of the performance Canyon Sports already market a mini torch using the same technology but these are, naturally, very much in demand.

This all sounds v interesting. I spend all evening chasing around turning of lights whilst aboard.. I can see a major lighting overhaul coming on!
