Just wanted to report on some replacement bulbs I purchased from this site

http://www.boatlamps.co.uk/index.html

I had 4 x 5w halogen bulbs in the saloon ceiling on our beneteau and have always thought it looked a little dim, I contacted Adrian from boat lamps who obviously knows his stuff and was extremely helpfull and pointed me in the right direction, went to the boat today and easily swaped out the old halogen bulbs and fitted the LED replacements and...WOW! what a difference it has made, its so much brighter but still warm looking. At £7.50 a pop I will slowly replace the bulbs in the rest of the boat as cash flow allows but really pleased I made the move and would recommend boatlamps with out hesitation.
These were the bulbs that I used

I am in no way connected with them, just wanted to pass on my experience to the forum.

We have just replaced 6 x 20 watt 12 volt halogen lamps with 6 x 2.5 watt regulated 12 to 30 volt LED inserts, we paid £7.50 but you can buy the same inserts for around £4.50 off of the internet.
We are trialing these before replacing the other 13 downlighters with inserts.
The current savings on the six on trial is 1.5 amps compared with the 10 amps on the halogen.

These are fitted on a Birchwood 340AC

Surely warm white is better than stark cool white inside a boat which has lots of exposed woodwork?

Warm white is exactly what you need unless you want to have that awfull blue light you get with normal LED's. I changed all our cabin lamps for MR16 LED warm white bulbs by changing the bulb holders. MR16's are really cheap, the ones with 36 or 48 LED'S are so superior to the halogen bulbs that were in the units and, of course use almost no current. Only problem I had was stopping the LED's falling out- they were only held in the bulb holder by two 1mm parallel pins. I had to hold them in place with a small SS steel screw into the reflector. One of the most benificial mods so far.

We chose warm for salon, cool for spots

Agree about the benefits of the LED's. I bought mine from Ultraleds and experimented with warm vs White. I now have warm ones in the main cabin and saloon lights but actualy like the cool white ones in the reading spots. We actualy had 8 x 20W halogens in the Saloon so the reduction in power consumption on a dark autumn evening is huge.

Having replaced most of our auto bulds in the last year I have moved on to the boat and have just replaced most of my cabin halogen bulbs with a mixture of LEDs G4s warm light and G4 Capsules cool lights for reading.
I bought one to try from swindlery @ £18.00 and was pleased with light quality so found on flea bay x10 capsules for less than £11.00 and G4 capsules x4 for £15.00 to change most of the bulbs to leds and am also adding two mtr led strip into the galley above the worktop bought for £10.00 so far hasnt been a costly exercise.Has anyone come across a chart table red / white conversion led ?

Very pleased with overall lighting and a fraction of draw on power compared with halogens.

Are what you bought constant current or resister controlled LED bulbs?. If they are constant current then they are a bargain.

I think you will find the the ones that listed above on Ebay will be straight 12 volt LEDs hence the price.

Here is a listing on Ebay for 10 x LED that are the voltage regulated type,
Item number: 180633329337 for £10.14

Had same thought and have just purchased a strip of white and a strip of red LEDS and a couple of ON/OFF/ON rocker switches. Plan is to put the two strips up side by side and use the switch to choose red or white as required. Will also do same in galley for those night time cuppas...

I've replaced all the festoon bulbs in our Sadler 32

I bought a couple to begin with to see how they looked, then replaced all of them.

Ok the light isn't as warm as tungsten, but it's brighter, clearer to read by, and I can switch all ten led bulbed lights on and use the same power as one tungsten bulb:)

I got my from Boatlamps, great service, and I wouldn't trust cheap eBay LEDs on my boat, save a few quid and then worry they could melt/catch fire....is it really worth it?

Anyone help me out here!

My halogen bulbs have 2 connectors that push upwards towards the cabin roof.

All the links given here are 90 degrees out. If I fit them, they will be facing bow or stern. So how do they fit in ceiling lights?

Is this the sort of thing you need? Theres loads of different fittings on ebay. Just need to search a bit.

I fitted 9 LED replacements today bought from HONNEYMUMMY's ebay link (thanks for that) and although I was a bit worried that they would not fit in the original Beneteau interior light fittings, they did without any problems.
In day light they seemed a similar brightness as the old Halogen bulbs they replaced. Hopefully there will not be a problem with over voltage by running the engine but as all the lights are from one fuse on the electrical panel I guess I could fit something here to restrict the voltage at this point to protect all the lights if I did have a problem.
