Leatherman Warranty

While I sort of agree, and I do like Musto, they have demonstrated that they choose not to offer strong warranties unless forced to. In this case, the credit really does lie with Goretex who stand by their product. Call Musto with a three year old BR1 and you’ll get the measure of their own support.

I’m only being pedantic on this because the purpose of the thread is calling out companies who stand by their products and Musto don’t fit that bill.

My experience, a few years ago, was then Offshore high fits that 'leaked'! Taken back to Essex and fixed FOC. However, that was under Musto ownership, it may now be different.

Well they stopped using their product a couple of decades ago for environmental reasons:

...but yeah, in the context of warranties they appear pretty good.

I've got a musto MPX which must be 30 years old . Will they send me a new one if I return it
In theory yes, if they’re no longer watetproof. It was a full lifetime guarantee.
It did later change to be “within reason” which I believe they said was 10 years use, but the original was still being honoured.

I sent my leatherman back in December but sadly have had nothing back from them. It's a bit disappointing. Perhaps Christmas was a delay
Should be OK and probably just a Christmas related delay.

I contacted them a few years ago and they said to just send it to a UK address they provided. I got a brand new Wave back very quickly.

My Wave was a very early model. A tiny bit of the pointed blade tip snapped off when digging out some old wood that had a hidden piece of cast iron inside. The blade lock broke a few year later and I contacted Leatherman.

I had the sense to retain my original leather pouch as the new model didn't come with one. Still happy with it but it does need oil to stop rust. Never had to bother with the original.

Well another week has gone by and just radio silence. I wouldn't be an advocate for the Leatherman brand. Moreover the only customer phone number is in Germany.
Did you see and try this...?

Please allow 15 working days to process your warranty. If you haven’t received a replacement after 15 working days, please get in touch with Whitby & Co at info-uk@leatherman.com

If anyone is interested in a new Leatherman, Costco have the new Leatherman Sidekick at iirc £36 including canvas sheath. I already have a decent leatherman but couldn't resist picking up another at that price. The sidekick is great, you can open the locking blade (and less usefully, the saw) from the outside and with one hand. The downside of Leathemans for me until now has been the faff to get at the blades in a hurry so I normally carry a more easily deployable deck knife. Now though, the leatherman has everything...bonza

Regarding warranties. It's pretty amazing to hear of no quibble replacements decades after purchase. I don't have that experience - or that expectation, but thought that Musto were very fair when my Musto Ocean salopettes (non breathable) which I bought in the '90's started to leak after a couple of decades and several hundred days of wear. One phone call & I sent them off and they came back good as new for about 40 quid or so. Great service and I think it would be pretty unfair to expect more.

I have only ever had one set of oilys in my life. Still have 'em & they are still going strong! Nice one Musto 😀👍

It might be excellent service, but with Leatherman prices you're paying for two or three tools and getting one! Perhaps that warranty isn't so generous?
Total marketing win. Very few people actually take them up on the warranty, but the word-of-mouth is insane. You can't buy that kind of brand equity.

The warranty for Leatherman certainly isn't working for me. Still waiting after nearly two months. Now given up and will buy another tool (not from Leatherman ). If you are going to offer a lifetime guarantee it has to be honoured promptly or it just feels like a rip off. I may have just been the single unlucky case of course but I have gone from being the owner of a working tool with a chipped blade to being toolless and out of pocket by the cost of the postage.

Did you call the UK firm again? Perhaps they sent it and it's gone astray. Send email to US and CC the UK firm. Give details and how much you were affected.

I have emailed them again. The call centre number is in Germany and my phone package objects to me calling foreign nimbers from the UK. Again... not quite what I expected. I think a previous post was spot on. It's a great bit of marketing speel but they don't seem to be very good at the process of doing the actual fixes... presumably because they don't have to very often.
