Leatherman vs Gerber

Unloading the boat on the mooring to take gear home after a weekend afloat. Put the Leatherman amongst the kit instead of putting it on my belt- got ashore loaded up the car and didn't give it a thought. Two days later wondered where the tool was- hunted high and low but no sign.

It didn't fall in the drink as far as I know- it could have fallen out of the car boot on to the grass as I was loading but I usually check the ground before leaving.

The truth is I'm now increasingly forgetful and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it could yet turn up, in my home or even on the boat in spite of what I believe I did

I think this is euphemistacally called 'a senior moment' and I'm going to have to get used to them I guess but hopefully not at such expense in the future.

Although did I mention that I've done the very same thing this week with my Garmin 12?. No ? Thought not schhhhhhhhh!!!

Thanks guys all input much appreciated- it would seem that the Gerber is just as good/robust and as some have said just a matter of personal choice.

I shall have just one more(third time) search of the boat and flip a coin, although I am tempted by an XTi at £55 from the States as it would be a bit of fun to see if it got past HM C & E /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is that the titanium one? I got one from the US, I think it was the Charge (it is on the boat) with no problem, and it came with some extras like a tiny set of sockets and driver bits that you don't think you get here. It was about 2/3rd UK price.

yes, that's the one but on reflection the Ti not the Xti (which has a gutting hook- for meat I think- is probably better and slightly cheaper. The Charge is the next one down in cost

There's one (Xti) on e-bay at £54.95 from USA plus about £11 postage which is a far cry from some of the UK prices as long as C & E don't get involved of course

Unlikely these days that you will get anything past HMC&E. You will almost certainly have to go to your nearest PO depot to collect it after paying the doo-dah.

These are pretty good too
