Lease (long term charter)

Does anyone know if it's possible to rent a yacht on longterm basis eg 3-12 months, at realistic rate akin to house rental yields rather than the very high short period rate? (This would make my sabbatical dream far easier)

Funny thing, I was about to pose the same question myself and am phoning my regular charter co tomorrow. I reckon it must be a good deal for a charter boat owner as for a start they save a years marina fees at I suppose 5g in Hamble and a lot of the cleaning and prep costs.
One could have a better or newer yacht than one could afford to buy

If its closer to a year than three months, why not purchase outright and then sell at the end. Get it right and you may even make some money on the deal.

I approached several of the smaller Greek charter companies with a similar proposition - 5 months charter, with me maintaining all but the major items, no weekly turnover/cleaning/inventory etc. I was offered several yachts from 32ft - 40ft, 3-10 years old, for between a half and a quarter of full price.

The age of the boat is not particularly relevant - so long as it has been well maintained. Pay in cash and they'll be queing up to offer you the best deal.

My guess is the same will be found in most other Med countries, but not, I fear, in the UK!
