learning the ropes

Hi, i'd just like to say hello to everyone as this is my first post =) it's probably in the wrong place...sorry if it is. Anyway, i'm very interested in learning how to sail, i have had a small cruiser on the Thames which i sold last year. On reading some of the magazines and posts on this site the dream of sailing your own boat across the channel and maybe the Med seems great. I have been looking at courses but i'm not sure where to start. I've read on this forum that i may be able to get some sailing experience crewing. Or, if anyone has any other suggestions i would be glad to hear them.

Hi. Welcome to the dark side! With your small cruiser, you must have made several friends with yachts. Can you not have a few trips out with them on Thames/Medway/Swale etc? What about flot holidays, plenty about where you can make up a mixed crew of single people? Or crew search websites. By the way, dreams sometimes become nightmares!!

The fastest way to learn how to sail is in a dinghy - it also happens to be cheaper!

once you have learnt, your nearest sailing club may be the easiest way to get experience in a larger vessel.

A lot of sailing schools do a "taster day", could be worth a punt, or dive right in and do a competant crew course

Hi Kit, my boat is parked at Gosport. If you can make it down there
on Friday night or Saturday morning I will take you out for a day
in the Solent. I have no crew this weekend, but the boat is only
8metres so 2 people is OK. If you come on the train to Portsmouth
