hi all

can anyone recommend a good resource (youtube? courses? manuals?) for learning more about volvo penta diesels

I am looking to try and do as much servicing work to my AQAD31B as possible myself but only know the basics

I can't seem to find any manuals out there... diagrams would be a great start

Indeed, this list doesn't even show the AQAD31B as a volve engine!
http://www.damet.com.au/Page/volvo-penta-old-engine-models

What's the difference between this and an AD31B? Or indeed the AQAD31A?

A link with a history of volva penta engines would be v interesting

Thanks
seb

The designation changed slightly ... AD31B (AQ).

What does this mean?

And in answer to earlier question the fact that AQAD31B not listed also made me wonder if broker had given me the right engine model.. can be looked up from a serial number or is on a plate on the engine somewhere?

If you go to http://www.volvopenta.com/marineleisure/en-en/for-owners/your-engine/manuals---handbooks.html
... you can enter AD31B (AQ) and download the user manual, which would be a start.

I'm not sure where the serial number would be on these engines ... on a product plate somewhere.

"AQ" just means "Aquamatic" = an outdrive version.
The older engine designations all had "AQ" at the start.
Then somewhere along the line, the "AQ" got dropped from the front.

First stop Youtube. ?
Lots of real time VP tear down videos on Youtube, including the real PIA jobs of removing / servicing heat exchangers and oil coolers etc etc.
No book is a substitute to watching somebody actually dismantling something.....
A short video can be worth a 10 thousand words and for those with the memory of a goldfish , go back to see where all those odd sized bolts came from .
