Learnig About Volvo Penta

I've got an very old Volvo Penta AQ130C in my boat which I would like to learn more about (e.g. at the moment it won't idle properly).

Rather than use the very expensive mechanics in the marina, anybody know of any courses / instructors on marine petrol engines, preferably in the North / Yorkshire?

Not everybody has diesel (can the RYA take a hint)!

(I've already got the Haynes manual for the road going version)

I fitted new carbs to mine and it transformed the idling. Bit expensive but you could have your carbs overhauled at a local garage.

Suggest the first thing to do is to buy a Seloc manual (they do one for AQ130)

Carbs......probably

Having had 2 x petrols in a previous life which resolutely refused to idle when you needed most and invariably stalled when you opened throttles ,the problem was wear on carb butterfly shafts resulting in weak mixture or some such .
Ideal would have been to replace/refurb carbs but poverty ensured that the next owner inherited the problem.
