Leaky Windows- Engineer Required

Hello, I have two leaks in my cabin windows. Port has a blocked drain and despite clearing still seems to leak. The Starboard one has a slight bow in the frame which leaves a hairline crack that lets water in. I am in the black hole of the Tidal Thames at Kew with little access to any boatyards. Johns ait is too busy. My boat is too big for Chas newens, I can not get a response from Swan island, the job is too small for any of the bigger yards at Brentford. I have tried Paul at Marine Windows in Reading but the voice mail is free. Any advice on who can help. Last resort is taking the windows out. Thanks for reading Tim

I trot this out every couple of years in this forum. Many years ago Tommy Sopwith was asked by Nigel Dempster "as one of the richest men in the world what is it that money can't buy" to which Tommy replied "Windows on my boat that don't leak"

OK! Having related my anecdote about Tommy Sopwith perhaps I can help. I found that 3M tape edged around windows works famously. Nicely done it can look quite good too.

By the number of older boats I've seen with loads of bathroom silicone liberally applied around window frames.... it must be the best way!!!!! LOL

I used this stuff once. Not only did it not fix the leak but under the slightest pressure the nozzle snapped off dumping the remains of the product on the boat. Where it was permanently stained forever. You may have better results...

Silicone sealant will work, like any related product, and there is a silicone glue sealant which worked particularly well on my top hatch (Nothing else worked!)

However, any externally piped product may be a little messy unless you mask off the area, and apply carefully.

First, try Captain Tolleys (on a dry day!!) It flows in like water, and sets inside, and usually sorts out hairline cracks.

Captain Tolleys does work unless the leaking area is too large.

However, Marine Windows - Paul Hughes - is definitely your man - 07955 068028 (it does work, I've just spoken with him) and he will come down to Kew and even further.
