Leaky window sealant.

I am certain this will have been discussed many times and apologize for the repetition, but I hope to obtain some sealant in time for the weekend.

My boat has non-opening perspex windows with rubber seals around them. I don't want to disturb them more than possible because, since a man was paid to apply 'something' from the outside they are mostly watertight. So watertight that I have now managed to trace a long standing leak - because it's on it's own now!

I could try some bathroom sealant between the rubber and the GRP but remember reading about a product specifically for this purpose - any recommendations please?

I use Loctite sealer from Halfords for my windscreen rubbers. You can get black and clear. clean the rubber and glass with thinners first.

a small dribble around one of my windows was easily fixed with bog standard silicone sealant. i've used expensive stuff in a small tube from the chandlers and cheapie stuff from the local discount warehouse and can't see the difference.

Use as little as possible to seal the leak - you can smooth it out if you use a wet finger but too much will leave a visible filler line round the window and it can get discoloured.

Silicone should be OK. Some sealants attack 'perspex' so be careful.

I've ordered a tube of that Captains stuff on the basis that it costs about the same as that mastic gun which I can't find and would need to replace.

+1 for Capt Tolley's. Cured the leaking glass/seal on my forehatch

Agree, Captian Tolly's creeping crack cure. When applying it check to see if it disappears into the gap. If it does leave it for a few hours to dry then apply it again. Keep going until you can see it.

Yep +1 captains creeping crack cure, I also bought a medical syringe needle which meant I could inject straight into the existing sealant, leak cured and has been for several years now.
