Leaking Eberspacher exhaust

We're getting exhaust fumes in the engine room from a newly fitted Eberspacher. I've obviously not fitted the exhaust properly - I used proper clamps rather than jubilee clips but should I have used these endcaps? If so how do they fit on? And is exhaust paste an idea?

I've sut the Eber down and won't be used until sorted - CO is nasty stuff.

No the end caps are for exposed exhausts on vehicles, have you used a full marine silencer i.e. welded to the exhaust pipe or a vehicle one which has a drain hole? Lastly exhaust assembly paste is not just an idea it is essential.

Edited to add my bemusement as to them having sold 38 of those at £10.98 when the ofical 2013 Webo retail price is £8

Any exhaust assembly paste, (the thin stuff that helps tubes slide in) not Gun Gum or repair paste, I use one from Beal workshop supplies in bulk but Halfrauds will have one in a tube.

does this stuff seal the system for ever? i.e. Is it easy to break the seal when it is necessary to remove the eber to service it? (i cant service mine in situ). Yhanks

I used Coppaslip. I don't know if that is good or bad. Doesn't leak, though.

Yes, a quick twist breaks it, you do need to clean it off though.

not Poole but probably half way round a marina if unsilenced

I recently had an emergency call out from a guy that was two days away from being ejected from a marina, not an Eber and quite a large unit but it was awful.

It's not very loud, maybe the longish run in the boat makes it quieter by the time it exits (about 5 feet)

Indeed, longer runs are quieter, in fact, and I can't recall the exact length you can't have a silencer at all when you reach it.

Why worry about how loud it is, your neighbours most likely won't hear it above your clanking halyards
