my lavac has a slight leak which seems to come from the base that attaches to the floor. I can't see whether its coming from the black gasket that attaches the pan unit to the base or from inside the base itself and exiting through the screw holes for the bolts that attach it to the floor. I assume the base to which the outlet pipe is attached has a watertight 'bowl' from which the waste is extracted and the securing bolts that hold it to the floor are a separate piece of the moulding. I can't tell from the exploded view but that seems logical.

If I pump out as much water as the pump will lift the leak stops so I'm assuming there might be a hairline crack in the bowl of the base unit. Is that likely? Or could it be the black gasket? It's not worth worrying about at the beginning of the season as waste is being pumped out fine and its only the intake seawater that drains out so if I flush, then pump out there's no problem.

But I would like to be prepared for what I might find at the end of the season when I take the unit out. I'm not sure whether it's a Popular or a Zenith - anyone know how to tell if I need a spare part?

Thanks B-o-B. Loks like from the part numbers the base and the black 'gasket' are the same on both models so its just a matter of taking it apart, seeing what the problem is and ordering any replacement necessary. Of course it might just need tightening up - after several years it might just be that the pan has moved slightly on the base but unfortunately you can't tighten the bolts without removing the toilet. Might be a job for when SWMBO is away and I can go on the boat and use a bucket during the equipment down time......

If you make sure the base is completely dry, then pump the loo to create the leak you should be able to find the source with a quick wipe about with a tissue. The gasket securing the bowl the base would be my prime suspect.

tried that! the water 'seems' to be seeping out from one of the bolts attaching the toilet to the floor. as those holes in the moulding would be separate from the 'bowl' in the base unit, either the water is seeping out of a crack in the base unit or a hole/leak in the gasket. not too bothered as it's a very slow leak so anything smelly or nasty in the bowl will get extracted before seawater drawn in starts leaking out. (I hope!)
