the only way i can start my 14hp evinrude worktwin is to use easi start.
when started it runs fine (apart from the noise which is the subject of another thread)
I read somewhere that the carb on this model has "leaf valves"which can cause starting problems.
Could this be my problem and how can I tell if so because the leaf valve looks like a shaped flat plate with no moving parts?
Obviously the carb is not blocked because the engine keeps running once started.
Compression on both cylinders is good

They're reed valves, a flappy piece of (normally)spring steel that lets mixture into the crankcase when the piston rises then stops it squirting back out again when the piston falls. It could be your problem.
