Leader 805 Values and Canopy Question

Hi All,

I hope you are all enjoying messing about on your boats!

Having been looking for a Leader 805 for an age, two have now come up for sale. Before I flog down to Devon to take a look, I wondered what the forums' collective wisdom thinks about current values. I am more familiar with the classic car world, which has seen values of "aspirational / semi affordable" values drop around 25% over the past 3 years. The two boats on the market have asking prices of £55k (D4 engine) and £58.5k (KAD engine) respectively, which to my untrained eye appear wildly "optimistic." I'd be grateful to hear your thoughts.

Also, for current owners, do you feel able to cruise with the canopy up at say 20 knots?

Many thanks,

Nick D

Suggest you watch the Aquaholic Nick Burnham YouTube channel, he runs an 805 to say he loves it is an understatement.

Whilst not my cup of tea, they do have a certain appeal.

Thanks for your reply,

Yes, I have seen his channel and whilst I understand they aren't for everyone, it would tick most boxes for me (minus a hard top) but the Aquador 26ht doesn't have such good sleeping accommodation.

I am guessing the one at 55k is the one listed with one marine at Torquay, looks tidy and cheaper of the 2 listed.

They're great boats, no doubt.

You want one with an extended platform and ideally trim tabs.

The canopies are a pain in the a$$, simple as (but managable).

Personally, i'd go for the KAD engine over D4, but personal choices.

Prices seem whack.... they were selling for €40-45k euro 10 years ago, but everything has gone nuts so it's anybody's guess

We were looking at 805s and Leader 8s last year. Those prices are starting prices and way too high and will soon drop. If I were looking today I'd expect both to be starting in the £40k - £50k range but if you're selling you have to start high, you can come down you can't go up.

We've had ours for 5 years and love it, prices are steep at the moment, the canopy is often criticised but work from the front backwards it works fine and is happy up at 20knts, the Bimini on it's own is fine up to 30knots :) whereabouts are you ND as I know of another that may be on the market soon in Chichester.

And if you have any other questions about them please ask away.

Regarding engines, I have a KAD43 powered 805, they are relatively simple to work on, no electronics but a physically larger engine, 6 cylinder, in a fairly small engine bay, The D4's are 4 cylinder injected with electronic throttle, more expensive to service, slightly more economical, and slightly more powerful 260bhp V's 230bhp.

I've been really happy with the performance, we have had 31knts out of her, nothing has gone wrong, never uses any oil and like the simplicity of the engine.

Depends whether you are after a good boat or a good deal I suppose. Desirable boats in good condition (these are the former, you will know the latter by looking at them) sell well for good money. Bargains are inevitably that for a reason.

Hello, we bought a superb Leader 805 two years ago, we have been lucky as the boat was very well cared for as we have done ourselves. I think I have documents and history from day 1, suitcase with every single document for every single bit of equipment on this boat!
At the moment we are thinking of selling as we are slowly relocating. Castanet is gorgeous, 2007 made and other than a bent rail on starboard side it`s just perfectly maintained for her age. Based in Chichester marina I can arrange viewings only for serious buyers.

Please feel free to get in touch, I have attached one picture.

Hi,

Owners are, of course, free to ask any price they like. The market will decide whether these are too high, or not.

In my book, the ideal scenario is a good boat at a fair price. I know plenty of property and classic car owners who wonder why their assets aren't selling; the answer being much of the post covid froth has come off and they aren't ready to accept this yet. Despite my old valuation Professor making valuations sound overly complicated, something is only worth what someone will pay, so time will tell!

Well yes, absolutely. The point I was making is that if you want a decent boat in decent condition, you have to be prepared to pay decent money for it.

I don’t know how long you have been looking, but it’s not like buying a car , they are every where . You make buying a exact model very hard especially as you don’t want to pay the right price. Every season you are losing you are missing what you want to spend your leisure time doing. People won’t be bringing their boats to your door and then give it you cheap. Get off your arse and go and look if you like offer what you think , then you have tried.

May I respectfully refer you to my original question?

Nowhere do I say I expect a cheap boat. Nor do I say I refuse to pay the "right" price. Rather, I was asking the forum for an opinion as to current values and trends.

If you do not wish or feel able to reply, that is completely up to you. If that is the case, and you have nothing positive to contribute, perhaps you could refrain from snarky unhelpful comments.

Thank you

I was saying what ARI was but he is more subtle , if you was ready to buy you would be flogging down to see the ones for sale. Someone has told you they are going to sell and you have not even replied . My last post and I hope you get one for your budget. SS
