Further to my problems of getting unsealed batteries, a Google search produced a link from which I found this battery. http://www.leisurebatteries4less.co.uk/678-leisure-battery-non-sealed
They have a lot of other types of leisure batteries (the clue is in the neame of their web site!) but I found all the unsealed batteries were listed as caravan batteries and not in the Marine section, so it is worth digging around.

The price was good and when they say "next day delivery" they mean it. Unfortunately I was out to lunch when the delivery came and it took a couple of days to sort out re-delivery. I thought it was a ****tylink issue (I rarely have problems getting stuff delivered, only with them) but when they arrived I found that instructions on where to go if I was not in were not visible to the driver, so I can't really blame them this time.

Standard non sealed lead acid, 85ah..so called leisure batterys.

They seem to consume water at a rate of 300mls every three months is this about right?

Boat is in fairly constant use, and batterys are on constant charge when along side.
Just replaced domestic batteries - pair of 85AH, although checked regularly have never had to put water in, and were still full (of electrolyte) when binned, not holding enough charge for overnight fridge etc. On charge voltage goes up to about 14.5 or 14.8 depending on whether you read the panel meter or a multimeter on the terminals. Plenty of engine use, also at times a few days on shorepower.
