Hi all, long shot! My brother has bought a place near here. If you look at Google Earth and plonk in the following coordinates...

41°56'18.52"N
3°13'0.18"E

You'll see a litte port with boat moorings. I'm wondering how I might be able to find out who to contact about putting a boat there?! It's a long shot I know but there maybe better sleuths out there than me!

Thanks
TT

Yuo'll be lucky. The pilot book describes Aiguablava as being always full all the time but there are plenty of other marinas on the C Brava

I can only tell you what we found on our recent Costa Brava cruise. We didn't visit every port but the 2 that seemed to me to be the best places to leave a boat would be L'Estartit and Empuriabrava. The mistral wind can blow pretty hard in this area so you need a marina that is well protected, particularly if the boat is going to be left for long periods unattended

Don't worry too much about the mistral wind. Most of the W Med is affected by the mistral to a greater or lesser extent. You just need to make sure your boat is properly tied up in a well protected marina and that the marina staff check the boats regularly. Most full service marinas would be fine

Well, I mentioned L'Estartit and Empuriabrava. Personally I'd be happy to leave my boat in either of these 2 places

There are at least half a dozen forumites at Empuriabrava (incl one with a Doral) and it's your best chance of a place. Don't be too put off by the Mistral (actually called the Tramontera) because it's just for a couple of days now and again and well forecasted. Fantastic boating around the coves of Cap de Creus and on the way to Begur including the Medas Islands (must be some of the best in the Med). Empuriabava is massive but on a canal system so it doesn't seem that big except for mid August when it's really busy. It's a fair drive from Begur, 30 miles which will take you an hour. Probably quicker by boat. You can have your boat stored and just put on the marina when you want it (I think the company is called interboat)
Hope this helps

That will be us then!!!

I was in L'Estartit a couple of weeks ago and their waiting list is in excess of 100, depending of course on the size of berth you want....(below 7m seemed less of a problem as they have quite a lot of day-boat berths in the inner harbour)

I'd definitely recomend Empuriabrava from a safety/security point of view, or if you head in the other direction, there is Palamos and/or Blanes, but I'd be VERY surprised if they have immediately available space.

What about Rosas?? Any room there, very well sheltered.

Not sure I'd agree Colin...we've been in Rosas town when the Tramontana is blowing so we couldn't go out in the boat, and the wind whistles across the flood plain from the mountains....the water in the harbour gets VERY lumpy when that happens!!
A few of the bigger yachts bounce on the bottom on their keels on the inward end of the outer wall when it blows!!

Crikey! Thanks for all the feedback. We might go over to stay at the new house in spring and suss it all out. I don't want to really have to drive for 1hr to get to the boat from Begur, that's only 30 minutes less than me going to Southampton now...if you see what I mean /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Got news for you though.....the sun is warmer (and more predictable!!), the sea is warmer and generally even in August you will be surprised how few boats you can see as you sick the bow out of the marina.....try comparing that to Southampton in August!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
