LBS - will it still run?

With the current & predicted weather problems, is it likely that LBS will actually run?

Difficult to believe that exhibits + visitors will be able to skate to this show.

The simple answer to your question is YES it will run ~ why because they are past the point of no return. The show will open on time ~ whether exhibitors man their stands or visitors can get there is a completely different question.

Peter.

........and who cares anyway?

........and who cares anyway?

Well.
The Punters
The Exhibitors
And all that want to go there

Why 'they' want to go there is a Mute point.
One show is enough for the UK
IMHO

OK, a few 'local' shows in the Summer months, small scale stuff is ok I reckon
Kinda boat Jumbly thinghies, as it were.

But three shows?
Earls , Southampton, Excel?

Even in the Maggie years
Daft!

O' course it's open ...

More creaking and groaning on this thread than the Cutty Sark in the Roaring Forties. Surely getting there is more than half the adventure? What's a snowflake and a few closed tube lines between mariners? See you there ............. later today, after work.

I have bought advance tickets, but am snowed in, with the promise of worse to come tomorrow. Even if I could get the car out of my iced up cul de sac (only one 4x4 vehicle has made it this morning) the station is down a steep hill from here, and the trains were not running yesterday when SWMBO's daughter tried and failed to get back here from London, so its anybody's guess whether the railway is even an option. Normally LIBS is a 90 minute drive, but I can see the main road to London from the top floor of my house, and there is little traffic, going very slowly. Unless there is a thaw in midweek I think LIBS will have very few visitors this year.

It's there, it's open, and there weren't many punters. But the stands claimed they were doing good business coz the punters that were there were serious buyers who'd made the effort.

Wasn't looking at boats, but from what I saw you could have walked onto any of them without any of the 'appointment' nonsense.

(Didn't go to the motabota side, so that could have been a graveyard).

Encouraging start ....

Yup, made it there after work; good few hours wandering about. North Hall well-attended, standing room only in the bars. South Hall (mobos) seemed relatively quiet. All the stands were welcoming and smiley; of course day one, still fresh!

Worthwhile visit, did not buy a new boat :-( But there again why would one want to when the used boat market is stuffed full of boats? :-)

Highlights: meeting up with Tom Cunliffe doing his book-signing - every finger a marlin-spike etc. And an inspirational talk by Sarah Outen, back from rowing the Indian Ocean (holds three records, including: first woman and youngest person to do the trip) ... see her blog http://sarahouten.co.uk/

DLR did the trick. And once there and inside for a while, winter recedes and you recall that the days are getting longer.

There again on Saturday. Much busier, chandlers stands especially, and had to queue to get to see a couple of the sailmakers. Ventured across to the south hall which was sepulchral compared to the north. Having had a better look around than on Friday, fewer saily boats (tho' lots of dinghies and dayboats, maybe more than last year?), fewer chandlers, but maybe more motorboats. One thing was noticeable - whenever I passed the Raymarine stand there were always more staff than button-pressers - maybe word is out that Raymarine is rocky.

You sure about that, most brokers are having to advertise 'SOLD' boats to be able to put a decent ad in. You'll find most used boats disappeared to Europe when the £ took a dive 12 months ago.
