LBS in trouble?

To me it's the wrong time of year....who has any money to spend two weeks after xmas....I for one don't.

Same as SIBS...why should I buy a new thing for my boat just at the end of the season....why not hold it I spring?

These events are a travelling road show, they have to fit in with everyone else's show. The people and boats are often in many shows.
I liked the Paris show, but the London one was dire.
I miss Earls Court

London boat show for me was a cheap day out.
Free tickets not to difficult to find (one free to RYA members)
Went in my car (about the same distance as from Gloucester)- probably cost £20 or so in diesel. The other couple we took paid the £15 parking under cover very conveniently at the venue. Hardly any traffic on a Sunday. Lunch was okay and not a total rip off - I have paid more at motorway services.
Seems to me a great day out at a time of year when there is no other real opportunity for boating activity.
.

I haven't been to the Southampton show - boating season still under way.

Visitor numbers started to sink as soon as the show moved from Earls Court to Excel and when visitor numbers fell, exhibitors started to give it a miss as well and now effectively its a show for the big 3 UK motorboat manufacturers and not many others. It also suffers hugely because of its proximity to the much larger Dusseldorf show but that was self inflicted because the show always used to start on New Years day but organisers moved until a week later so now it almost overlaps Dusseldorf. Its slowly dying and I dont see that reducing it to 5 days will stop that

Thursday evening forum drinks are the best bit !

That said I did buy a boat there 3 years ago !

Big challenge I suppose is that it used to offer discounts on kit you could only get at the show, now you just go online. Even the exhibitors - cactus etc - have their show offers on line.

Sadly Earl's Court has now been knocked down !

I agree there were few apparent special prices .
Did get two pairs of shoes for £50 but not sure if this was a show special offer . Another shoe retailer a few feet away had no prices on show and no customers.
The few other items I purchased were the same as the same retailers on the internet . However no postage cost so a small saving there.

My thought on the reduced days at London is the cost of erecting the stands and taking them down must be significant so some retailers may decide its not worth the expense for 5 days.
