Lavac Toilet Repair

The vacuum has pulled away part of the "lining" of the bowl on my toilet of unknown vintage. The approximately 2 inch square blister now has a small slit.

The lining looks like a thick layer of paint or plastic.

Any suggestions for a repair please? Or is a replacement inevitable.

This was a common problem with the old (early '70s?) aluminium bowl Lavacs. We removed all the plastic coating from ours, sanded it back to clean aluminium then sprayed it with etch primer and white car paint. Was still ok 5 years later when we sold the boat but I don't think I'd bother doing it again.
A new Lavac without the pump is less than £250 and there are quite a few used china bowl versions with lids and seals on eBay.

A common problem with early aluminium Lavac bowls. I think they were originally powder coated. Ours blistered within 1st year and was replaced free of charge but that one also blistered. 3rd one lasted until we sold the boat. Don't think there is a lasting solution, aluminium is a devil to paint. New ceramic bowl probably best bet.

you could get the Lavac bowl grit blasted and then powder coated again

Check the dimensions of the aluminium bowl against the porcelain bowls, Zenith is the older, larger model, no longer made, and the Popular is the current, smaller model. The seats and seals may not be compatible with the aluminum bowl dimensions. In which case, it would be very expensive to change steats.

Just be mindful that a new loo, non Lavac, can be a lot lower cost than the bowl or even some spare parts. The Lavac is a great loo, I have two on my boat, spare at home and a spare bowl, for Zenith size, but so far in 15 year of ownership, only a small vacuum break valve had to be replaced.
