I had some success with gently lapping a tapered seacock on my lavac with fine compound which removed the slight drip it had when at a usable tightness.

I think there is a plastic brand/type called marelon which seem quite good.

Pleased to hear about the plugs. My Blakes seacocks were a bit stiff and i thought easing a turn or so on the bolts would help matters but one sheared off in my hands with little pressure needed. thankfully i was 5ft above Port Solent car park at the time.

The handle on my Blakes can't be wrongly positioned ... the handle is permanently attached (probably sweated) onto the cone. However the cone has corroded in the area that is adjacent to the outlet port when the seacock is in the normal OFF(across the flow) position. The cock therefore doesn't seal in this position. To get a good seal I have to turn it nearly 180deg (ie as far as possible) from the open position.
It is possible Suse's cock is in fact slightly ON, even though appearing closed.
