lavac pump question

I'm ordering a behind bulkhead manual pump for my Lavac head.

The ideal location is facing up, so the pump handle is pointing straight up out of a locker. Odd, I know, but it's out of the way and solves many problems.

Will the pump operate normally? Does something about the vacuum require the pump to be straight up and down?

cheers

I would have thought that something like a Whale Mk V should work whatever the orientation, after all it is designed as a bilge pump and therefore can not be relied upon to be upright when required to work, i.e. flooding! I think the Lavac is designed for this sort of pump?

Can't see why there should be a problem - the Lavac pump is basically a Henderson Mk V pump in white rather than black plastic so should work in any orientation. Worth trying to make sure that you can get at the detachable cover at the back - they hardly ever get blocked, but if they do, you probably won't want to dismantle the whole of the heads compartment to get at it !!

yes it will work this way but you would ideally need a head of water above the pump to shut of the check walves in the pump, you will need to run the pipes above the level of pump somhow on there outlet side.

Thanks all for the input. Think I'll take a run at it. If it doesn't work up, I'll just yank it and try something else.

We have a Henderson pump for our holding tank pump out. My understanding is that it is the same pump. I checked its mounting instructions while on the boat yesterday - says it can be mounted in any orientation.

(Messy things to clean, by the way, if required so make sure you have access to it with collection of drips room under)
