I have 2 Lavac-branded seat components, as shown below...

The lid measures 358mm x 258mm. The seat measures 355mm x 343mm.

Complete with seals, but no fastenings or packaging. Unused. Bought by a friend in error for a boat he no longer owns.

I'm having difficulty relating the items to Lavac Part Numbers. Can anyone give me a positive ident? :)

Lady Campanula,

One dimension does seem to agree with the Lavac Popular that is the 343mm.

The shape of the back of the seat looks different but may have been modified since the manual was produced and the diagram never updated.

If you look at the picture of the Popular in the brochure it is very close to the seat you have so I think I agree with VicS.

Oooops - I see VicS's posting seems to have disappeared

Yes I looked at the parts list again and deleted it.

I said I though they were the parts for a "Popular" but then realised they were a different shape to those shown in the diagrams. (although the dimensions are not far out)

If they are pretty new then they are perhaps for the new improved Popular that they now produce ( they dont make the old Zenith any more) or maybe just a revamp of the old design parts.

I suppose the parts numbers will be different to those in the parts list if forthe new Popular but maybe not

Lavac Popular and Zenith Bowl Dimensions

You have a lid and seat from the Popular Model. The seat diameter of 343 mm is compatible with the Popular bowl diameter below as it would be far too small for the Zenith. I don't believe that the Zenith ever had the new lid and hinge style anyway.

The hinges on the Popular were always suspect, being more akin to cheap plastic one size fits all toilet seats. Your photos look like that cheapo style which was a replacement for the original pivot bar and lugs design (on my links) which had many parts. From theoldsalts picture it looks as if they have redesigned the seat hinge again, which wouldn't surprise me. A good twist by a rotating bum on the seat would dislodge the seat from the pan on your friends style.

Popular Bowl Diameter Outside 349 mm
Zenith Bowl Diameter Outside 368 mm

Pity they are not Zenith, incredibly expensive spares and a more comfortable throne. When we purchased our Rival, the wife throw two Zenith seats out in a mad cleaning frenzy. Later when we went to buy new ones I nearly died at the cost; a liferaft would have been cheeper!

Is the top surface of the lid smooth or rippled? Apparently this is one way to tell the difference. I believe the popular is rippled...

Curioser and curioser! The top surface is smooth.

Thanks so far, guys. I'll have a go next at the manufacturers/distributors, but they have a reputation for 'august detachment'.

Bear in mind that you will still need a mortgage for the seals . . .

I was fortunate to pick up a set for my Zenith in Dickies slummy bin shortly before they moved house. I nearly ripped the poor assistant's arm off.

According to "Scott at SBI', the Lavac people in Florida....

"Those are a seat and lid, with seals, for a lavac popular toilet......"

It seems that the existing hinge assembly in situ is important, but that spares and variants can be had from Piplers of Poole. The kit, including seals, is priced at over £76.

Now, do I put the whole kit 'n caboodle on eBay? Or on here? :D:D:D
