How small/ big should the "hole" be

[/ QUOTE ] There are two different sized holes depending on the height of the toilet relative to the waterline. The User manual on the Blakes lavac Taylors website has all the details but not the actual diameters of the hole as far as I remember. A pin or a tooth brush bristle should clean it, maybe just a rinse in hot water but try not to enlarge it.

Thanks vic its about the size of a tooth brush bristle . I thought it was a bit small.. Still doesnt stop the flow of water thought .

Still doesn't stop the flow of water

[/ QUOTE ] Bit worried by what you mean there.

If the hole is restricted it takes ages for the vacuum to be released before you can lift the lid and you then find there is too much water left in the pan. If it is blocked completely and the top of the pan is below the water line it will just keep syphoning until you either shut the sea cock or sink!
If you enlarge the hole too much then it'll be difficult to draw enough water in for a decent flush.

When every thing is set up right you should be able to pump as per the instructions, open the lid (if you want to!) within a short space of time and be left with just a sensible amount of clean water in the pan.

If you cannot hear the air being sucked in then the hole is blocked (or you are deaf like me)

You should have plate with the instructions engraved on it screwed to the wall nearby. If you don't, print them out from the manual and stick them up.

Re: Lav vac anti syphon vent

I once temporarily lost the vent plug while cleaning it, so I wrapped some tape over the hole. I progressively enlarged the hole with different needle sizes until I achieved the right flow rate.

I can check out the actual size in a little while when I go down to the boat..............

Re: Lav vac anti syphon vent

Okay- do you have a 'bic' biro, if so, take the blue plug out from the pen and insert it! This is exactly the correct size. Our 2 'Loos' have these technical items inserted into the high point of the piping for 11 years.!!!

IF one needs to open the lid - why??? - just put your fingers around the lower part of the lid assembly and gently move the seal, you will hear the vacuum releasing. Lavacs are the most efficient user friendly loo on the market & I'm at a loss to understand what the problem is!!!

[/ QUOTE ] Still got to make a hole through it! At least the only one I can find has no hole (it's green anyway so wont be any good I suppose /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) Clyst's problem is not that he has lost the plug, just that the pin hole is blocked!

Why lift the lid? To make sure you have not left any turds in there for the next person and if the vent is working properly there is no need to stick your fingers in anywhere and mess with the seal.

Should add for Clyst : Dont let SWMBO know you are using her tooth brush. Wimmin are funny about that sort of thing! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
