Many years ago I went to a launching ceremony which was carried out by a lady whose first language was not English. She got it very nearly right, but not quite. She said.....

"I name this boat XXX, and God help those who sail in her"

As the launch date for Damarri grows near, Mrs J. whose first language is also not English, is getting distinctly nervous about getting it right!

Can anybody tell me the correct wording for a launching ceremony please? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Me too. It's a bit like the announcement I heard on a recent Lufthansa flight out of Munich: "...the captain hopes we will have a safe flight."

in my experience the wording varies quite a bit when (or if) the godmother has been drinking beforehand, (I guess nowadays we ought include snorting, and pill popping, and smoking stuff) - life isnt so simple anymore is it !
