Can anyone please help me with a weight for a typical 18' mahogany launch.

We are looking to build a davit to lift a launch that is being shipped back from Canada, but at this stage we do not have any idea of the weight, and want to make some initial proposals.

The boat is a Duke Playmate 18, and whilst there appears to be an abundance of information on the internet of restoration projects on this type of launch none mention the final weight.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
 
Doubt there is a "typical" weight. Why not get the thing weighed properly before designing your davits. Better than guesswork.

Yes, you are right, the boat will need to be weighed once it arrives.

We were just wanting to do some initial concepts and trying to get an idea if we would be talking about 500 or 1500 kg

Internet research indicates it could be anywhere between these numbers, so as you say, perhaps there is no typical answer to the question.

Maybe we will take a stab somewhere in the middle until it arrives and get it weighed.

Unless anyone else can tell me otherwise !!

"Launch" could mean anything from a lightweight runabout with very thin strip planking, or plywood panels and a light petrol engine, to a a solid hunk with 1" planks and an ancient diesel. Does it have a 4 foot beam or 8 foot?
So somewhere between a few cwt to 2 tons.
Is it designed to swing from davits? You can't just lift any boat from the two ends, like a lifeboat.
