PLA have informed tidal river users that they should ensure that their moorings are checked and secure. Refers both to individuals and clubs.
Marinas will have their own arrangements.
 
Checked all pontoons today. 80 boats.
Interesting to note the variations in bits of string and the interesting collection of mooring techniques employed.
Especially the more ropes and the shorter and tighter the better brigade.
 
I was quite amazed by the bits of string deployed on a lot of vessels, starting to think I may have gone a bit OTT with my new mooring lines.
Also surprising was the sheer number of boats that I'd never clapped eyes on before!

Some of them would need a plough to begin to clean them up . ?
Wonder if some owners have forgotten they ever had a boat and merely wonder every now and then what exactly that annual standing order marked "Club" actually refers to. :)
 
I assume you guys still have access to your boats it being a club? Would love to go down and clean the thing, sick of the sight of this house after 5weeks incarceration
 
There has been some Ahem, "debate" regards access but on the whole folks are respecting the lockdown in principle..
Unlike some boaters who moor in commercial Marinas, have yet to hear any mutterings from club members about refunds etc.
Good luck with that one and would love to be fly on the wall with whoever brings that one up with our esteemed and much praised treasuror.
Our winter allowance of fuel purely for heating purposes has been held over:)

COVID-19 MOORING INSPECTIONS
The Port of London Authority (PLA) would like to remind all commercial operators and recreational Clubs that even during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it is of vital importance to ensure that moorings are appropriately inspected and tended at regular intervals. This follows a recent incident at Chiswick Pier, where a small commercial passenger vessel broke free from its moorings and made contact with the pier’s brow after drifting a considerable distance.

Whilst we appreciate that commercial operators have either; limited numbers of employees or that their staff have been furloughed, it is vital vessel moorings are attended to regularly to ensure that incidents like the one described are prevented.

Equally, while recreational Clubs may have closed their clubhouse doors, it is again important that either owners of vessels on Club moorings or a suitable representative from the Club inspect vessel moorings regularly during this current lockdown.

The PLA also recommend that all houseboat residents use this time to ensure that mooring lines and fenders are examined and meet best practice.
