This year we changed the plan.
Instead of heading over to the islands during July and August as usual, we decided to stay in Sant Carles for the summer.
Just as well because it was hot hot hot.
I remember being in 45 degrees with forecasts of 48 degrees.
The swimming pool in Sant Carles worked overtime.
A few of us guys even joined in the Aqua Aerobics in the pool.
I won't mention their names but even a few who post on this forum found their way to the Aqua Aerobics in the pool on some mornings!!

We had a busy early part of the year.
JW is 10 years old now and there were a few big jobs that needed doing to keep her in good condition.
Having done all the work, we rewarded ourselves with a quick dash across to Mallorca and Ibiza during the first week in June.
This video is a reminder of that trip - posted earlier this year.

But just one weeks cruise isn't enough for me.
I always like to do longer trips if possible.

So, after enjoying the summer months in Sant Carles, I planned a more adventurous trip.
We have often done two of the islands but never done all three in a single cruise.
The weather had to be good to us.
Menorca is always difficult because it is in "line of fire" of the Mistrals which "fan out" from the Gulf of Lions.
So, I was really pleased to see the long range forecast showing the Menorcan coast "doable".
In the end, not only did we manage to get to all three islands but we also managed to do the return leg via Denia and Valencia.
Well, actually, we were beaten by the weather which forced us that way.
Whilst we were in Denia, Mallorca was being "beaten up" by torrential rain and the north coast of Menorca was experiencing 6m swells.
All places that we had been to during the previous couple of weeks.

I'm sure he won't mind me saying - djefabs on this forum has cruised a lot on Jennywren and I was really pleased when he accepted my offer to join us this year. He has done lots of long distance trips with us but not really relaxed on our of our anchoring cruises.
So, with him and a yachtie friend, we set off in the middle of September - just the three of us - A BOYS ONLY TRIP.
Well partially, anyway - the ladies would join is out there - flying into Palma later in September.
And to top it all, the weather was so good that we could leave early and do "our own thing" ---- until the girls arrived.
As my yachtie friend put it "we went feral" !!

During our cruise, I posted a number of "where am I" threads and promised to write up one of my cruise reports.
But instead of the usual Hurricane report, this time, I have made a full video that documents the full cruise in pictures/videos.
I made the video so that people who don't know the cruising area will understand the location of all the places.
At each anchorage, the video switches to OpenCPN showing the ships track and then zooms into the location of that specific anchorage.

Two apologies
Firstly, I apologise for the length of the video - over 8 mins long - but the actual clips are quite short - there are just rather a lot of them!!
Secondly, I couldn't upload it in full resolution - it is on Vimeo and I only have the free account.

The video has lots of drone clips - some good some not so good.
I've really got into the free open source KDEnLive editor. In the past, I've used a lot of video editors - Adobe Premier was the best but IMO KDEnLive is better and runs on all platforms.

Anyway, here's the link to Our Late Season Cruise (click image or the link below the image).

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have on the cruise and in the making of the video

I take it you are currently negotiating payment from them not to publish the grisly video evidence on here;)

Nice vid. Brought back many memories for me

Excellent videos and most welcome on such a miserable day. Thanks for posting. :encouragement::encouragement::cool:

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have on the cruise and in the making of the video

Stunning video composition. Live the dream. Great scenery and nice sea state. All those lovely anchorages you visited look so much more appealing than crowded. zoo marinas. Very muched enjoyed watching that.

As OF says, livin' the dream.

Nice vid, thanks for sharing. Those bays (with beaches) look a lot more relaxing this time of year.... must be my old age, preferring peace & quiet than crowds.

Lovely cruise and excellent video

I was wondering about the Drone laws in Spain. I have the DJI Spark and Mavic Air and usually take one on holiday with me. This year however I read the laws for Greece and Spain (Lanzarotte) and was put off so much I never took either of them as the laws seemed very draconian. I was wondering watching your video if these laws are more theory than fact and provided you are sensible no one bothers you having a short fly

Dennis

enjoyed the video, nice to link the posts to the map,
you certainly fitted a lot into 3 weeks
thanks for posting

No idea.
I'm one of those people who will do this kind of stuff until someone stops me.
That said, I often fly when nobody is watching.
The light is sometimes good in the morning and before any officials get to know about it, you've finished what you wanted to do anyway.
For example, I don't think we are allowed to fly drones in Sant Carles Marina - but nobody has told me otherwise so those shots of SCM at the end were done in the morning sunlight and the drone packed away before anyone could complain.

It isn't as though I'm doing anything morally wrong so as long as the complainers don't know the drone has flown, nobody will be the wiser.

Mike those are exactly my thoughts but I posted a video and got all sorts of negative comments. I think that and reading the sodding net made me worry too much

Keep doing it till you are caught I say. As you say what harm are you doing

Bravo Mike!

What a wonderfully evocative video.

Excellent Cinematography and editing.

As others have said brightened up a pretty miserable day in blighty.

Thanks for posting :encouragement:

I can't second those who had their day brightened by your video because today myself and swmbo had the opportunity to join a boating mate in a short delivery trip, in glorious sunshine and calm seas...

But still, a great visual summary of what has obviously been a fantastic cruise. Thanks for sharing the experience! :encouragement:

Excellent video H, really enjoyed seeing the drone footage over the different anchorages and the way you made the references to the cartography, great production work.

How are the solar panels working for you? There was one piece of footage at 3.22 Santa Ponca where it looked to me like they were removed?

Great video, some beautiful scenery there.

Do most of the marinas have fuel?

Most of our cruising is a mixture of Pootling (10 knots) and Planing (25 knots).
This has the effect of extending our range significantly.
That trip in the video was 555nm from Sant Carles to Sant Carles
We started with full tanks but only refuelled once (Santa Ponca) and never went below third full.

Yes, most of the marinas have fuel but using the pootling/planing concept, we don't need to worry about refuelling on cruises like this.

Very nice video hurricane- thanks for posting. Brought back a few memories. I like cuitadella very much though have only been a couple of times. Think could see Jez's boat in the st carles shots. 11 places to JW's stern.
