I bought a second hand laser dinghy for my daughter some years ago. I now want to renovate/repaint. The deck is a sort of beige/yellow colour and the hull is red. Previously, I have only ever seen all white Lasers. Is this likely to be a post manufacture paint job, or did they come like that? If post manufacture, how can it be removed or alternatively what is the best method of preparation to get it all white? TIA

I had a red hull/cream deck laser in 1990ish, At that time they all seemed to have the cream deck with different hull colours available. I think the hulls were colour moulded not painted.

Some were moulded in various colours, apart from 'special editions' most have been Vela Grey or another pale grey for a long time.
The very newest ones are 'ice blue' AFAIK.
Older lasers were all sorts of colours.
Red and beige sounds a bit odd, but could be red and cream?
If it's paint, I'd sand the hull.
The deck is a bit of a problem because of the texture.
Sanding or painting the deck will put it out of class I believe, which you probably don't care about for an old boat.
But you will struggle to keep the texture and get it clean enough to paint.
If the deck is already painted, I'd expect chips to make it obvious.

I had two Lasers: bought one (all white) as a dead simple fairly quick fun beach boat, son quickly appropriated it and turned it into "his" racing boat with new sail and fancy strings, so I bought another, that one red/cream. They've been built in several places: both mine were I think Australian. The red and cream were very definitely original gelcoat.

Hi
Some older lasers came with yellow or off white decks. I would not paint this unless it is in extremely poor condition. My advice would be to soak the deck in oxalic acid and leave it to stand for an hour but just keeping it wet. Dont let it dry out..then hose it down. You may be surprised how good it looks after this. As for the hull, if you have to paint use a two pack polyurethane either get it done professionally or check out Youtube and hire a compressor and paint gun and do it yourself. Not difficult. Good luck,
