Hello everyone.

I'm getting desperate now.. been searching for months for tall sailing boots in UK size 14. I'm not the only guy out there with big feet so someone must know where I can find some! Appreciate your help as cold wet feet are not the way forward!

With boats like those, do you even need boots?

When working on my launch I wear wellington boots, as these are easily obtainable in a bigger size & actually have a surprisingly good grip on the deck. I can get thick socks on as well.
On my yacht I do not actually get wet feet from sailing. I am not a great fan of the weight on my feet. I worry about the effect on me if I fall in.
However, rain does run off my wet gear & so I have found the best alternative are shoes (docksiders are the biggest I have found)with sealskin socks. The socks are great for warmth & wet.
I have a high instep so struggle with sailing boots. The biggest I have found are the Gill ones. They only last 2-3 seasons though.
To remove them I have an aluminium plate (ply would do) with a "V" cut in it & a piece of broom handle screwed to the underside in the middle. I hook the heel in the V & stand on the other end of the plate & pull the boot off.
On the boat I have a piece of bar screwed diagonally to the back of the steps & I hook my boot in that.

Hi,

I am having the exact same problem with size 14 feet.

Have you found something yet?

About a year ago I have found that ronstan makes a pair of XXXL boots that fit pretty well with thin socks. I got a pair, but they are not very warm and they are slightly to small to be worn for long durations with thick socks, so I did invariably get cold and painful feet when wearing them for watches in the winter time.

I am now planning to sail far up north this upcoming spring and am searching once more for a good pair. Any tip in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the tip.

Looks like a good start. Seems like their 14 is their largest size, would definitely want to try them on and make sure they fit with thick socks on.

How soft and sticky are the soles? I guess that would be one of the main difference between sailing and non-sailing boots..

They’re effectively walking boot soles. Not ideal granted, but I understand they are de rigueur for folk sailing above the artic circle!

just adjust your image more towards the Tillman end of the scale compared to the hooray Henry end ?

I have similar issues with width despite only being a size 12. Same thing sometimes applies shirts and jackets being somewhat stockier than average.

I find that US online sites tend to cater for bigger people well and their lower prices tend to compensate for the cost of shipping/ customs.

Most ship to the UK or there are companies that will act as a middleman and do so.

I have a pair of the yellow Dunlop Purofort, same jobs the RNLI issue, mine are 47, my usual size and are far too big. They do a 48, I suspect you might find those ok.

I bought a pair of soft wellies which has a drawstring at the top, so far they seem to be OK and they were also fur lined which is good for my cold paws..
