We are taking a holiday in Corfu next week. there seems to be an absolute abundance of 30hp boats for hire but no large boats. can anyone point us in the direction of a reputable charter outfit that would rent us something >50ft for a couple of days?

Many thanks in advance.

Mike

Think you are out of luck there. Have been in Corfu for 10 years and have never seen a MOBO of any size for charter locally. The only one I can think of is that Kiriacoulis had a Bavaria 37 available for day charter, with or without skipper. Plenty of sailboats - which are for most of the time MOBOs because of lack of wind.

If you Google Corfu Yacht Charter you will get a long list of the smaller operators who might be worth a try.

As Tranona says
You will struggle to hire/ rent a mobo of your desire
Make do with a 'put put' it's a great Island
I have 'done' a few.
It's 'up there' with the Best

I think you have no chance of finding what you want in Corfu. Up to 80hp 16ft is easy at any of the bigger resorts but not to be used after dark ;)

Contact Gouvia Marina as this is the most likely place to get what you want. There's usually a couple of Police Launches parked in the slipway making launching awkward. Perhaps, in the current economic climate, they'll rent you one of those.

I was at Gouvia a couple of weeks ago and that Bavaria 37 was busted...like half the boats in the charter fleet IMO. Our 2003 charter yacht was knackered and had had no pre season maintenance. All the broken bits were fixed whilst we waited overnight. Nothing major but plenty of irritating faults......
That Bavaria had a leg issue and was being fixed on a 'as and when' basis as it was the cheapest option for them.

Sounds par for the course. My boat was with them from 2001 to 2007 and service went progessively downhill. When I left Gouvia in May, K's operation looked even more of a mess with no new boats and ill prepared for the season.

My boat survived very well, lagely because I kept on top of it by using it at the beginning and end of each season.

Sorry for the drift but this is spooky. I think I chartered that very boat in September 2004 and the leg went bang 2 days into our holiday!!. Stuck in boring lefkas too!!

Damp, slow, fuses kept tripping.... heap of c$*p

Its a very small world :)

AFAIK there is a sunseeker manhattan, approx 60, in gouvia. i don't know the operator of it but Hugo does. Jeremy Clarkson needed a boat in a hurry last summer and I think Hugo found him this manhattan

We're talking crewed at this size, not bareboat, obviously. you wont get a bareboat that size

Large boat charter

Hi all, cannot help you with this holiday but my partner and I are in the process of setting up a charter business that will be based on Kos. Hope to be up and running for the start of the 2011 season with 50ft + motor cruiser available as skippered & hostessed island hopper. Would be interested to know if anyone is considering this type of holiday for next year. Have a great time. John
