I'm about to start on Danbrit Decking first, it's not to bad and the worst areas seem to be along the gunwale's .
I'm in South Lincolnshire but will drive to collect , also I know it's a soft wood but what if I cant get any which other wood is close to larch. How much should it cost

oh and while I'm at it, some green oak would be useful for the rails (for want of a better term) all around the deck which are 1.25"" thick x12"" I need about 60ft of that.
Perhaps you have just what I need and want some cash if so pm me

Cheers
Mick

I redecked a yacht quite a few years ago and I purchased larch planks off the saw from Jones of Larbert.
The planks were 16-18"wide 4" thick and 18 foot long, all three if them. They were unseasoned. I took them back to the boat on a well overloaded dinghy trailer.
I then hired a petrol saw bench and cut them into 4" planks the correct thickness. Then immediately fitted them in position on the deck with countersunk bronze screws. They took the curve without difficulty. The deck was then smoothed off with a hired industrial floor sander and canvased. The total cost of the larch direct from the sawmill was about £100.
Perhaps you could phone around sawmills and find if anyone has larch to mill.

Best of luck

Iain

John Barchard is your man - somewhere in Yorkshire. He used to have a very famous sawmill but was bought out a few years ago then restarted on his own. I don't have his current contact details but think he advertises in Classic Boat. failing that try a google.

Mick,
Try yellow pages for timber re-cycling/salvage yards, pitch pine would be ideal for the decks and any old oak or pitch piune for the "rails" aswell, you'll be surprised what some of these timber salvage yards have and they are reasonably priced, normally! Wear your dirty overalls and snarl at em'!

Ha I always growl mate and live in dirty smelly overalls !! :).

Typical My gearbox died !!!! so I cant go fetch, its costing loads of dosh .They wanted £288 for a new main shaft then £50 for a transfer gear £ 23 each for the main shaft bearings, it goes on and on .
So I'm not going to muck about I have a 300tdi coming on Friday complete with gearbox exhaust radiator both propshafts and all ancillaries for £600 .The worst thing is the Mazda engine is perfect and I don't want to swap but these LT85 Santana boxes are crap . I couldn't even get a guarantee re a recon box cos I have the conversion . So if the weather improves I'll get stuck in this week and some time next week I should be back on the go .

Re the timber why not it's a good idea I pulled some of the rail off and its a yellow colour with a long grain a bit like perana pine the stuff looks like oak !! I'm sure its Larch but ?.
Cheers
