I want to improve the audio on my laptop which currently sounds like mickey mouse shouting through a tin can

I want to hear my lovely folk music in a half decent way

I want to hear the lovely sound mixes on films about a bloke with a double chin sailing a small boat up muddy creeks. I carefully blend water noises, bird calls and music and all I get from the laptop is compressed shash

and for the Adams family films of course and now that I have been reminded about MR Ed and Mrs Peel that too

I have come across speakers that are powered from the USB on the laptop but reeivve the audio signal from the little din plug

any suggestions chaps

want to keep it to under £30

good idea

Try these. Better than laptop speakers and can also be powered by AA batteries.

but....

hate those remote controls

life expectancy on a boat about two days

can you control those without using the remote

I read the reviews... can you use them without batteries and just using the USB power

I bought a little pod once - you could charge it via USB but it would not run at the same time it was being charged

which was quite annoying

What remote control?
Yes it works with usb only.

I went for Creative A40 2.0 desktop speakers. Fantastic value @ £11 on Amazon. They are USB powered with the audio supplied via the usual jack - so you can use them with a laptop and a portable TV as the later don't support USB speakers. If you don't have a USB on the telly Amazon do cigarette socket extensions with a built in USB for a few quid.

The X-MI X Mini II is also a great bit of kit of the money (depends on whether sound quality or size is the priority but for such a small unit the sound is remarkable)

have you tried changing the sound settings via the control panel .the cheaper end laptops have all the worst hardware built into them.
if your in the home you could always use the hdmi cable etc and get the music playing through your tv's sound system(will have to have hdmi input on it too),whilst watching your movie of yorself on the big screen too.
cable will cost £2 off ebay but get yourself a wireless mini mouse and the laptop can have the screen turned off and watch and listen to everything via the large screen from your armchair or anywhere within your visible range.

Before I updated the boat stereo I used to play my MP3player through these.. very small, but a surprisingly good sound... they have a phono socket which you plug into the headphone socket on your laptop.. runs off batteries... can't remember, think they were AAA's...

I want to stay away from messing with batteries

I will only use them with the laptop so using the usb as a power sourxce seems favourite

the logitech ones look like the best bet at the moment

thanks chaps - really helps

I have some Creative Inspire T10's to use with my PC. I also play my DAB radio through them. They sound quite nice and run off 12V.
