Any ideas where I can get electronic charts for my laptop. I am running SeaClearII software with a USB GPS receiver which will give me a position on a world map 100% but I need to get a chart for my area which is Strangford Lough NI. Someone out there must have some idea as to where these could be downloaded from. Please advise

we bought at the boat show the admiralty digital chart set and have been very impressed - have just had demo disk of imray digital chart set which for south coast is - complete with tide date about £40 - not sure what other areas they cover but worth checking on their web site - good luck

I use Seaclear with Australian Admiralty digital charts. The digital charts are far superior to scanned charts. When zoomed in the max, scanned charts will show the grain of the paper and any faults. With digital I can zoom in so that one depth mark fills a 19 inch lcd screen and it remains pin sharp.

Unfortunately Vector charting for Seaclear of the area he wants is not available.

To make available for seaclear ... best would be to either obtain BSB vers 1 thru 3 charts of the area or to screen dump CM93 or Mapmedia charting and stitch together at zoom level required. That's if scanning and stitching not available.

Something that people seem to overdo - stitching of chart scans. It's not necessary to stitch a whole chart back together after scanning. Nice but fiddly. I usually take a chart and accept that I have it in 4 sections and let Seaclear load next section ... that way chart loading is quicker, albeit with slight delay as it moves onto next one.

So possible solutions and still use Seaclear :

Find older BSB versions of the area ( must be KAP files )

Find someone with CM93 or Maxsea ( CM93 or Mapmedia )that can screen dump chartlets to jpg / png graphics. Stitch together to form suitable charts for calibration.

Get hold of Adm. charts of the area and scan to jpg files for calibration.
