Here is an article for anyone interested in the current registration dilema on the lake. I know of at least two people who have registred SSR and intend not to take out Lake registration. I wonder how many others do the same? I also wonder how long before the authorities close the loophole.

The farce continues.

How has Windermere been this year, are the marina's full?

Is the speed limit being enforced?

last Autumn when I came up Bowness looked pretty run down but haven't visited this year.

Martyn, how are you.
Marinas are full.
Bowness still lively.
The Lake is not that busy appart from raggies.
As for the speed limit, What speed limit /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Dont think the limit has been policed the same this year not after last years farcicle use of police with speed cameras onboard the wardens boat. The wardens do not appear to be patrolling as often as they did (probably cant afford too) So business as usual. I have put the same hours on and at the same speed as I used to and even done some kneeboarding this year. Will be very interesting to see what happens with the SSR thing. Could end up with no wardens at all due to a total lack of income. Which is a pity cos the wardens do a great job of assisting distressed boats and the occasional fatality, so credit were its due.

I'm well thank Ian we've had a great year in Majorca.

Glad to here that you are still enjoying Windermere and that the incompentent idiots on the LDNPA haven't killed the fun.

Has the ratio of stinkies to raggies in the marina's changed? When the ban came in we herard stories of mass ranks of transporters taking powerboats away. Presumably replaced with yachts.

I hope to get up for a day soon, if we do I'll PM you to see if you are about.

Martyn

Yep please do PM me.
Probably more ragies in the marina than there used to be but only cos they dredged it when installing the new jetties in order to accomodate the raggies. Therefore they came in from the swingibg moorings. Dont think we have lost a significant amount of P Boats except of course for the ski boats just that the lake looks and is quieter cos theres no ski ers or day launchers with bowriders anymore. Still a great place to spend a weekend / week, we love it.

Ian,

Great story, my day is getting better and better!!

Are you going to SSR register Its Only Money II?? I am very tempted to register mine just so I dont give the LDNPA any money. Need to sort it quickly in time for Jan.

Being a lazy git now, do you know how to register on the SSR and do I need to name my boat?

Re: Richard Cranium Award where it\'s due!

A friend of mine has found out this week that the SSR people are refusing to give owners details to the Wardens(Data Protection Act). So the Wardens will have no way of getting your name. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif The wardens have said that if everyone uses the SSR, they will have to drop to one warden cos they cant afford any more.

Now where did I put my skis. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Took the tender inflatable up to Windermere this year spent all day between 15-20kts. No sign of the Wardens, no one questioned me back at Ferry Nab.

Re: Richard Cranium Award where it\'s due!

It's just SSR. As has been said it takes a few moments on the net and a couple of days later you get a neat little laminated certificate. I did it last week.
If you don't change your boat name the wardens will still have your address details on their database. But you could claim to have sold the boat I suppose.
I'm not capable of breaking speed limits, but relish the thought of saving £61 per year.
That is of course if they don't try to close the loophole.

If the warden service was reduced it would only become the same as Ullswater or Coniston. I understand the wardens are already doing less in the way of investigating missing boats. I know of one small cuddy boat that is (illegally) moored up to a boat house, has had it's registration numbers removed and is (we know this) being used by some lads who are not it's owner. The wardens say they can't do anything about it and even thought the boathouse owner has complained, they will not tow it away down to Ferry Nab for holding.
I've already noticed they are not as red-hot on HSE at the mast crane. Not a hard hat in sight last weekend.

Re: Richard Cranium Award where it\'s due!

I spent a few weekends on Ullswater last year. Warden coverage was 1 rib for a couple of hours on Sunday lunchtimes.

They made no attempt to stop any boaters just did a great job of warning swimmers of deep water and making sure that kids on lilos and inflatables were ok. (This was in July before the 3 guys died)

Re: Richard Cranium Award where it\'s due!

Well, they can't be everywhere.
My brother-in-law has a little part-time job at a camping farm on the shore of Ullswater and a little cuddy boat on the lake and he sees them quite often.
The last time we were out we anchored up and they chugged past. OK it's not full time cover, but it's as good as you get most places. I reckon Windermere is a bit OTT with warden coverage. (but they're all very friendly and helpful and the idea they may lose their jobs through the inneptitude of the LDNPA is disconcerting.)

Just requested my last 6 years registration fees back, every year I asked what was the cheapest way to register my boat on the Lake and they always said I needed to register with them. As this is not the case and I feel mislead and hence I have requested a refund.

Not much hope but it was worth an email, when I get a rsponse I will post it!
