Lake Windermere short term moorings ?

We have been wanting to try Lake Windermere but unable to find short term moorings.

For some time now I have been looking at where to moor the cruiser for short periods ( Months as to annual ) and I see on Windermere this in the terms

Now that would be ok for us as £550 annual mooring isnt to bad. BUT you cant put a boat on the mooring.....am I missing something.

I've just got my mooring renewal notice for Windermere. (They run from April). We pay monthly by DD to break it up. The wardens are fairly acommodating & helpful.(Well I've found them so)
 
If you don't get what you want.......You could get on Ullswater via Dalemain estates and have a swinging mooring from March 1st to Oct 31st at Euesmere for around 400 quid for the season if you book before March 15th. and providing the boat isn't over 24'. (You'll have to buy the mooring gear from Jared Smith at St Patricks landing in Glenridding).

So does that mean you can go on mid season and pay DD and then move off after a few months and cancel the DD. But you still have to sign up for the season.

Just like to ask even though i am ringing them tomorrow.

It's a reduced charge for mooring holders who don't have a boat or don't want to put one on the swinging mooring at the time but don't want to give the mooring up. If you put a boat on it the charge reverts to the full rare.

I suspect that whatever charge is due will be for the remainder of the season. They do have holiday moorings to rent.

Just had a look at Ullswater and looks a nice spot to adventure also.

The beauty of a trailer boat is to take it with ease anywhere ;)

I will call him and see whats what.

I did think that but then the price seems a bit OTT.

I looked at the holiday mooring and if i was to moor for 3 months price gets a bit much again, well for me. We can fairly easy trailer the boat as it is only 20 foot but not some thing i want to do every weekend or so.

yes it is not cheap on Windermere as some are £5k for the pontoons but swinging are good in places.

I've tried both and much prefer Ullswater. Windermere is very expensive and crowded in the summer. We thought we'd have fun when the daughter was small, just a bit of sailing and then tie up at a jetty and let her run about ashore for a bit. Unfortunately, we draw 4'6" and in the summer on nice weekends, pretty much all the spots on the public jetties with enough water for us were taken up (usually with powerboats that would float in a good puddle)! Ullswater neatly solves that problem by, er, not having any public jetties! FAR less crowded though, and easy to get to from the M6.
 
As I understand it,
you pay for a holiday mooring @ £10 a night
or tell them that you have paid for a marina mooring, £35 a night
or pay the annual fee for a mooring at whatever it is per meter, ~£700 for my 20'er 2 years ago.
They will pro/rata the fees if you only use part of a year, and they re-let it. But they don't. You may get some months reduction if you start some months after April, but best ask Travis.
 
Just flipping back to Ullswater, I use both (have a mooring on there as well as Windermere....don't ask). The beauty of Ullswater is that if you want to stay at the shoreside, i.e camp/caravan etc. both Parkfoot & Waterside have water front sites.

After thoughts on this today I am swaying towards Ullswater. Good price which I like. It looks a great spot from what I have seen on the internet.

Me and T are going to Bowness in a few months for a weekend so will look around both areas.

Ullswater is easier to get to which is a bonus. I like to drive and I do it for a living but after a 400 mile day at work and setting off Friday afternoon I prefer the ease of motorway as much as possible.

Just need to finish the boat now :)
 
If you take a mooring from Dalemain estates for Ullswater, you can also keep your tender (if you use one) for free on waterside land owned by them, but you have to know where. I keep mine chained to a tree there, along with a few others. If you do go with Ullswater, PM me and I'll tell you where you can keep it. Also, the other "go to" man is Jared Smith at St Patricks landing boat hire at Glenridding. Lovely, helpful guy who is Dalemains mooring contractor.
It's also easier for us, as it's A1 A66 then just drop down to Ullswater.
