This is a reply to "Nick" who pm'd me and unfortunately I am unable to trace his request concerning the above. If you wish to bring your boat to the French side of the lake I suggest you use the port of Sciez (which is about 7kms by road from Thonon towards Geneva). This harbour has a large free safe parking for "trailor/sailors" where you could leave your boat and launch as required. All the moorings in Thonon and Evian would be taken in summer by locals and the Swiss. Forget about the Swiss side (the waiting list for mooring in Lausanne is 18 years and Geneva about 7!!). If you need more precise info or translating pls pm me again.
Have a good weekend!

P.S. in Sailing magazine of February 2003 there is an interesting article of sailing on the lake by another English Trailor Sailor!

I too sail on Lake Geneva and agree with Pelican about most ports on the Swiss side. However I keep my 7m boat in the private port of La Pichette near Vevey.
A visitors mooring, of which there are always plenty, costs 13 Swiss Francs per night with free hot showers. There is a good slip and also a crane with free parking.
So if Nick wanted to launch and then keep his boat in the water this could be another solution.
Please pm me if you want any more info.

Thanks for the replies. My plan/pipedream is to trail my boat down to a French port on Lake Geneva (less hassle with trailer regs, EU-member, nearer Chamonix etc) at the beginning of the season and leave it on a mooring there for, say, four months, and then tow it back again at the end of the season, using it for summer holiday and intermittent long weekends in-between. I had heard that all the berth allocations were stitched up by the locals years in advance (which definitely seems to be the case on the Swiss side) but I had hoped there might be a way round this. Although I live in the UK, I can provide an address in France. Any ideas? Nick
