Well, the Laguna went under her own power again on Sunday evening, did'nt even have to claim on the medical insurance due to having a mate built like a brick s***house that helped with the delicate lightweight heads.
Thanks to everyone who offered advice and hope to see you out and about soon.
Al.

Always thought they looked great, been waiting 20 years to find one without American Marine marinised engines. Particularly liked the larger 11.5m one.

Me too, I remember them when looking at boat mags as a kid in the 70s and I always thought they looked great. Would be good to see pics. There was an mby test in 1973 and I know Unit18 managed to get a reprint of it recently

Thanks,I've only got very basic computater skills so unable to put pictures on the Babage Mk1,but hope to be round at Brighton in the not too distant future.

I'm a sad old git and I always keep things like that, I think I've got the same review.

I've got some pics of our old one ... I think I also have the article on them. Let me know when you're thinking of coming to Brighton Alex

Got a friend over in Norway who have a 11.5M (1970 model), with 2 x 300 CATS (New in mid 90's I think).
Great boat, heavy and a bit beamy, so drags a serious stern wave below 15K.
He has re-built side cabin with double berth and added a third bunk bed in bow. also had to re-work steering hydraulics from flybridge as they failed during a short cruise. Un-fortiunately the previous owner removed the dinettes and put in rather large leather sofas instead, so now more comfortable, but less roaming space.

At 15 feet I think you could say it was a bit beamy, and we have also removed the dinettes,(mainly for access to the engine room) as having GMCs I spend a lot of time down there, good idea about the side cabin conversion, might try that soon.
Cheers Al.

Can ask him if he has got any pictures of the side and front cabin to send to you if interested... May give you some ideas of what to avoid, or may even give you some thoughts of what to do.

That would be great Alf,do you need me to PM you with details?
Wish I could afford those lovely creamy cats instead of the green things!

I think the article was about May 1973, it was a group test where they took 6 boats X Channel in pretty heavy sea. There was mooraker 36, Laguna, Appollo, Birchwood, Fairey plus one other, can't remeber, a seamaster or was it a princess 33? I chucked it out a while ago, forgotten the details

No need to PM..... have sent off a mail asking if he has any pic's and will let you know if and when they arrive ... via a PM, or otherwise. Of course, if you want to PM me your e-mail address, I can contact you direct, if that's your preference.

Agree about the engines, (not intended to be negative against your green ones).

Reply received and they will try to take some new ones this week-end and sent to me...

Think it was a bit later than that and a Princess 37 .... Had a '76 Apollo 32 until mid '80's & let the article go when I sold the boat, as it was complemetary to the Apollo as far as I recall.

Date of the 6 boat group test

Ooooh I have strong recollection it was 1973, but I could be wrong. I binned mine ages ago. Unit18 got a photocopy recently - he can confirm.

Funny how memorable the article is, not many other MBY boat tests from the mid-70s will be remebered by several forumites

Re: Date of the 6 boat group test

Yup, September 73,It's interesting to see the different style of journalism and layout to today. They asked about 15 manufactuers of which 6 turned up and 2 promptly broke down.

Re: Date of the 6 boat group test

I stand corrected ......

Memorable it was ! I guess it may have been rather unique, as I cannot remember how many other articledshad that many boats reported on in one single article. Also what made it more interesting was that it was not flat calm ..... (must have been quite some team of people involved to do an evaluation of how each of them performed). Not counting the £££ value of the boats involved... cannot see it being done again with new boats today.... (think this has been discussed in the forum before).
