Lacquer to protect Aluminium Windows

I've just tarted up my first boat window.

Nice and shiny .

Any ideas on a lacquer for protection ?

The problem is adhesion. if you were going to paint it, you'd need to use an eyching primer on the aluminium - but that would spoil the look with laquer! Parts made for marine applications are usually polished and anodised , forming a hard coating on the surface. I don't know what laquer might gibve an acceptable protection, but whatever you use, keep an eye on it and be prepared to rub it back and relaquer from time to time.

Aluminium is useless for windows,

I would try something like glass that the light can travel through!!!

Not a lacquer . More a chromate treatment that is a substitute for anodizing.

I didn't know about alocrom. Had to google it, and it sounds good. However I guess it dulls the aluminium?

Looks very interesting although it will change the colour to golden. I cannot find a supplier of the chemicals, looks like it has to be done by a contractor.

I would give Rustins Metal Lacquer a go.... only cause I have a bottle. It sticks well to brass and copper.

Failing that, I would send them off for anodising...... its really not that expensive and is the "proper", fit and forget solution.

Anodising old things that have been cleaned up can be disappointing.
