Nearly forgot to mention the effect that moving the LBS to Excel has had on the industry. Still, it can only get worse with the LBS effectively being split in two (Excel and Earls Court) this year.
All that and the fact that diesel will be £5 a gallon next year! and the god awful summer we have had, I am afraid that together with a looming recession in 2008 means that its going to be a very tough year for the boating industry!
I would buy an old transit, put a bed, a portpotti, make some side windows Azimut S style and do a tender bicycle garage aft
ah forget red burgundy side color and anchor infront so when I park I will be safe from a Huricane

I am afraid that together with a looming recession in 2008
[/ QUOTE ]
Is that your opinion, or a forecast from somewhere?
I agree that there is a recession pending ...... everything is conspiring to screw the ordinary Joe into the ground, and I must admit to wondering why interest rates have needed to rise, when lots of other things have risen to remove disposable income.
I thought that interest rate changes had an effect around 18 months after they are made, so why the continual need to raise them, as a result of what is reported at the time, is beyond me. The outcome of this policy is that they always go to far, in both directions - not rocket science?
If there is a recession, there will only be one person to blame, and we know who that is... of course, he will still have his flash house, car, perks, powerful job, and so on, so what does it matter to him if there is a recession.... no doubt he will find something global to blame it on.
Ee lad, it's been going on since Moses time. Seven years of feast and seven years of famine.
We got out of the last recession, largely by inventing scam businesses. 1989-91'ish.
These mainly targeted the poor and feckless. Or, unstreet wise.
Lotteries, premium phone calls, extended guarantees. Hidden cost behind most everything bought. Coupled with the hedonism of a wish to compete with celebrity, supported by credit cards, extended credit, interest only mortgages, etc, etc.
Things started getting tight a few years ago. Bolstered by 24 hour drinking, the failed casino's and the massive increase in government employees, or dependants.
Much of the profits earned, for pensions and retirement, has gone to the lenders in America, to lend to the feckless there.
Getting back to boats. Marinas have done just the same. Price rises without warning, extras for this and that.
The farce of three year guarantees on engines, but only if used miracle Volsplutter oil, engineers and ludicrusly priced parts.
Sounds all to simillar to sodom and gomorrah. Or the fall of the roman empire.
It's the meek that inherits the earth. Not Paris Hilton.
Yes, we are like many others, making preparations, to leave the country. Yep it has been pointed out, as where 350, 000 are leaving the country, many more are comming here.
Yep but it's the relitivly wealthy that are leaving. The poor canot.
So, due to the economic clamp down, china can now no longer sell goods, to the impoverished. UK.
I think I am beginning to understand.
So the takeaway food Industry will expand.
They will need to hone their work ethic those Indians.
Cos the energetic Chinese Business Peeps will need some fast food that satisfies , cos yer know what it's like, after yer have scoffed a Chinky, not long afterwards yer fancies another one.
Bit like drugs I suppose.
Yer keeps needing a "fix"
The French Hotel Industry might receive a mini Boom in the Paris area due to accomodating some of the 350.000 Travellers?
The remaining poor could help out here.
Working for the Chinese.
As the Chinese export market will have suffered.
Cos the impoverished UK can't buy their stuff.
Cheap UK labour could be utilised to make stuff for the burgeoning French Hotel industry.
Another Plus (see yer have to be an Optimist in times of recession) there will be no shortage of Flags.
The Chinks love em!
Which is another Plus ( if what You say comes true) for a Burgeoning Burgee Boom!
I once saw a video about a 'boom in Paris'.....very low quality though! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I think the general good times are coming to an end. Middle England are sinking under bureaucracy, high taxation, school fees debt and increasing interest rates. Middle England are the average British boater here in the UK. Something has got to give...and the feel good factor is disappearing very quickly!
oh & visted Calcutta and Delhi where the company call centre is just before Xmas, I am not a fan of call centre's Virgin's is dire, but, I was so impressed with ours, staff were very smart, polished, and so, so keen to learn. I've also been very impressed at our in house IT.
They just get on and build things & do things there, non of the health & safety pussy footing around, we the UK are going to be a very poor country in the future.
