Kwacka, any of the mobo lot being referred to here?

They werent impressed by the Mobos!

That's a crackin log/blog or whatever nice stories are called these days!

No--- not a Forumite boat in sight but I do recognise the Mobo in question.
Plus I know where He lives;)

Sfunny thing.
Me an hlb watched a raggie come in at that very spot last week.
H is a bit crocked at the mo but stood by to catch her stern line.
I nipped forward and caught the bow line thinghy off of the fender floosie.
Cos H was leaving shortly, they then had to park agin the mobo behind.
Which was /is going nowhere at the mo cos it's knackered!
Anyway-- the performance of the Raggies to shunt backwards a boats length was quite painfull to see.
Fair play though they had just done 14 hours from somewhere

Probably Conwy (Snarf snarf):D

Then low an behold when H gets back to Conwy he is rammed by another raggie.
See H's earlier post.

Dunno if I mentioned when we met Monday
Sunday in Pwllheli as you know there was a bit of a breeze about.
Also lots of boats firtling about the Marina there as you probably know too!
Some of the 'slow' boat and close quarter handling was rather amazing to say the least!

Plus I reckon that soime of the Mobos don't realise the probs the Yoghurts have at low water just where you are parked.

Oh! an thanks again fer the cold one, appreciated after a hard days graft sittin on the dock of the bay an on top the Mobo's flybridge yer saw;)

Now those peeps you met won't be bashing anything after the Grilling I gave em:eek:

Think it's about the same with Mobo an Yoghurt peeps.
Some just go too fast in Marinas an don't plan nuffinck , innit
Good trip that though and well written
Cheers

Good to meet you, enjoyed the crack, see if I can get your way this weekend

The front does generally comin first
Followed by the arse end

I like to be a weather annoucer person.

Imagine
'The wind is backin, there's an arse end comin in'!

Your behaviuor is as bad as his . . .

I must admit tho' that I would be as unimpressed by a MoBo travelling a 5kts in a marina as Haydn was by the Raggie that rammed him. So it goes, there are eejuts in all walks of life.

Do you really think a boat that size was doing 5 knots inside Victoria Dock?

The raggie that hit me whilst going full astern, said he was looking forwards!! How stupid is that. At least he said he would pay attention next time. After I told him the bill was going to be 5 6 or maybe 7 grand. Before that he said he would pay the bill himself.

Fred drift. I dont know, if he hit the dinghy and the dinghy dragged the 85Kg davit back, or he hit the dinghy then the davit. His rails did not look high enough to reach MF's davits.

you need to let your insurance people know you have concerns about the Avon. Their assessor will test it when he comes along.

(Offer to buy it for spares....)

The guy just has a complex about his humble, little old boat, and felt threatened by the larger flasher machines.
He wanted to go boating on his terms and the thought of sharing facilities with others, didn't suit him.
When the opportunity came to slag off about mobos' he let rip, probably to justify his whinging.

He's just a sad case...they are about! ;)

I have never fully understood the rift between raggies and moboers. I thought boating was boating and that you used the craft that best fit the boating conditions. A raggie friend of mine went into a tantrum when I purchased a mobo. She called it a stink pot and a smudge pot.

Maybe she had seen MF and was traumatized, I don't know, just a theory.

My response was "Francis, I don't know why you sailboaters are so down on power boaters. We don't think that way about raggies, in fact we consider you powerboater as you are under power and not sail 95% of the time." I can't remember her reply other that it was very loud and I was in a hurry to clear the area.

It can be a very cruel affliction Bernie.....'Raggie-itis' can deeply effect ones ability to reason, making poor judgements, and leaving the sufferer in a deluded state. :)

AndieMac...Thank you verrrry much for this vital information. I had a 26' Columbia raggie when I live in San Francisco during the 70's. And all this time I thought it was something else causing lack of reason, poor judgement, delusion & and the munchies.

Never to be accused of causing thread drift Bernie, but...........heady days were the seventies :)

I wonder if the Columbia boats were the same built under licence in Melbourne by Internnational Marine. They had the Bertram moulds (under licence also) and did the yachts as well. The two they built were a 27' and a 34'. Did your 26' have no side deck, so you would have to climb over the cabin top to access the fore-deck?

If they are one of the same, quite a good boat.

I think that there is a lot of experienced safe and considerate boaters on both sides of the fence, furthermore, good friendly people, on and off the water.

Perhaps, the problem being; if a mobo is not one of the above it is more apparent for obvious reasons.

Whereby if a raggie is inept, they carry out their lack of the above quietly with an air of superiority and then blame the nearest mobo for their lack of knowledge or skill.

so when a red Honda Fireblade shoots past you at 120mph with expansion pipes it wakes you up a little bit. If the Milkman forgot to charge his float and ran out of steam halfway round, then hit the kerb, cracked half a dozen eggs and needed a tow home, it would pass somewhat unnoticed, both road users, both are probably tossers.

Having just read the details of these peoples trip, (which was quite interesting) its a great shame to discover that they have such a low opinion of their fellow men. Having been on the commitee, and then been a flag officer for a yacht club some years back I remember that it was quite hard to bring the sailing and motorboating members of the club together. Frankly, I cannot tell you why but there always seems to be a bit of 'rub' between the two. Cannot tell you whether it was snobbishness, jealousy, a feeling of superiority or what, but it definitely existed, and still does I am afraid to say.
