KTL to be aired on American TV

Snipped!!!!!

"You do realise you may create a stereotypical image of a British sailor"

I have allready been approached by dubarrys offering me a contract to wear their boots and their boots alone from here on in.

My immaculate coiffure, which has been carefully styled to balance my hugely impressive jowly neckline, will certainly set many an American lady-mariner's heart aflutter.

Then of course ther are the immense spin-offs for our repuation for maintaining the highest gastronomic standards both on and off the water

- fray bentos when afloat - battered sausage when ashore.

Fray Bentos may never look back:D:D I hope you have signed a deal!!!

Well done and not doubt this program will amuse the Headmistress and many more of our Kissin cousins.

Maybe you should start a few threads in the Cruise forums and sail forums over the pond to tittillate them:D

The slug would also need some professional work down on it - proper scuppers, new roller reefing, proper electrics, epirb, chart plotter, extra tin cans, tea lights, meths

None of that needs to be professionally done, though I grant you the parts will cost more than a subscription or 3.

Pete

Does British TV realise what it is missing - they have dabbled, but only with personalities/celebs already known to them - time someone helped them break out of this 'closed shop'.

KTL global

How about going Global... me lad

Why not franchise KTL to maybe..
KTL in ozz, or KTL in New Zealand..or even KTL channel isles... to mention but a few,

My idea ... so I want to be Handsomely rewarded please..
From
dabs. Inc.. good ideas R us...

Dear Dabs,

great idea..... although actually an ex pat Brit who lives in llinois and who sails on the great laikes has offered to copy the DVds for me in the states - he is doing them for $5 a pop plus expenses.

So far he has made $10

an ex pat Brit living in New Zealand has offered to do the same thing for me

so far he has made nothing.....

However, I think that this makes KTL into an international media corporation of some significance - Murdoch is worried.

agree Pete, but I would need to be a bit more serious about the state of the slug before taking on the North of the UK and I reckon I would need to spend another couple of thousand on it. Roller reefing and new genoa is going to set me back quite a bit, Epirb and survival suit or life-raft.... no idea,
wiring... one of the ktl subscribers has offered to sort that out for me when I get further North

I am sure they do - the TV people really know their jobs . Think on it.....unknown jowly man, ugly boat, mumbling ironically dark things about the state of the nation, mobos and frenchmen.... they just don't like the look of it on so many levels

buts thats alright - most of us go sailing for the sense of independence and freedom it gives us.... right now I am really enjoying the sailing.... and if I drive all the way to Wells and the birds (avian variety) just don't show up or the light is rubbish then I have still had a good time sailing, eating battered suasages and contemplating the gentle ebb and flow of the tides

Thats Great!

Swmbo and I were watching the two on the front page on Friday nite, and were commenting that with all the channels on freeview why cant they broadcast your stuff instead of all the boring repeats and celebrity wanking...

And remember that Canadian couple (The weird woman with the hair who never seems to have changed her age....) .... they started off pretty simply.... and now they are sailing a new Southerly 48 RS iirc....

Here's to the Slug being the star of sailings equivilant of "Ice Road Truckers" or maybe "Worlds most Dangerous Catches".......

Don't undersell yourself too much, Dylan. We already have both Paul Heiney & Griff Rhys-Jones canoeing our "Hidden rivers" in seperate TV series. Your offering would knock both of those into a cocked hat. Perhaps, include a bit more "local colour" - traditional fishing/ wildfowlers, HM's etc etc, to provide extra variety.

Make sure that your web link or some other contact details are included in the credits. There is a large new audience out there for your stuff. There are 160 million yanks, even if only 1% see it, & only 1% of them like it & only 1% of them want to buy it, then that's 1,600 dvd's sold. Make it hard for them to find you & you may only get 1% of that (but that's still 16 dvds).

I presume your links on here help to keep you up the google search page, it's that sort of thing that is so important.

Not to mention that ....awful .... programme on BBC2, about a man in camper van
driving around the counrty doing a bit of cooking..

How did he get the thumbs up do make that....!!!!....

Congratulations Dylan. I'm keeping the handwritten SAE that came with the DVDs now that you're famous.

Sadly, I'm sure Twassock won't survive the cut.

Can I do KTL America, starting in Washington? Not sure whether to cut short through the canal or head around the bottom.

Back off everyone....

KTL franchise is my idea.. And Dylan is/will be my best friend

I bagsie... KTL south Pacific ...

I bagsie... KTL south Pacific ...

Not sure you can bagsie an ocean. Going around the South Pacific in a lefterly direction, implies going around the solid bits rightwards and you would keep getting in the way of the other franchisees correctly navigating their territories.

Critique of existing output

wondered if this might be a good time and place to discuss the existing output of the sailing channels last offerings

grateful for any feedback

this was broadcast on Miami PBS -

http://watch.wliw.org/program/1286394481/

it went down so well that it has now been recommissioned as Adventures in Sailing

http://www.adventuresinsailing.net/

So, if you have any perspectives on the first series

what you think of it - the way it has been packaged for an American audience. I think some of the offerings are really interesting

and if anyone wants to make suggestions about which bits of KTL I should suggest to them. I am sure they will make up their own minds - but it would not do any harm to kick a few ideas their way.

Dylan
