Kovolan

Not been in there this year (more's the pity) but it looked normal when I walked past a couple of months ago.
Suggest you just ring the HM's office and ask them. At least one of them is a fan. 01206 302200.

We had a great Curry in the Raj Pavilion up Tower Street towards the town center last weekend.
Much better that the last one we had in the Kovolan and much less crowded.

Tower Street is the road up the hill behind French Motors etc.

We were there with Clive and Tim, I rate the Raj pavilion as a better restaurant as well.

If you go between Sunday and Thursday you can get a discount card which gives 10% off. (not take away)

Not planning on curry but we're planning on being in brightlingsea Friday night... Lots of beer in the bilges if you want to drop by.

Ate there on 13 Aug with 2 friends who are B'sea 'residents' - excellent as always. My friends prefer Kovalam to Raj - different region cuising they tell me.

Absolutely. It's great to eat Indian where the main choice is the great British dish, tikka masala... South Indian cuisine is a delight, mainly veggie (I'm not by the way) due to the inability to keep meat for any time. Kovalaam is one of my two all time best Indian restaurants, the other being Woodlands in Marylebone Lane in London

The Kovalam does have an appeal...namely it is near the hard! Other than that I have to admit I struggle in finding any plus points about it.

Better service and (IMHO) better quality food, can be found at The Raj about 300 yards up Tower Street.

Take a look at the reviews on Trip Adviser...http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restau...iews-KOVALAM-Brightlingsea_Essex_England.html Maybe the Kovalams laurels are slipping?

Totally baffled that people think the Raj food is better, but each to their own! Nothing wrong with the Raj, it's your bog-standard "Britishised" curry fare. Most dishes taste much the same and some are terribly over-sweetened. The Kovalam is completely different, much fresher & less greasy and some very tasty South Indian fare on offer which you don't get elsewhere.
