Kos Town vs Marina - Recent?

Looking for recent experience of anyone who has spent night(s) in Kos (greece)
town harbor rather than the marina.

When I passed thru last Nov - it looked like there were some improvements to the quay and it appeared that the Marina was actually coordinating services / berth charges.

Has anyone stayed in town recently?

We were there a few weeks ago. There is a booth where you pay for your berth, water and elec. This is staffed by folk from Kos Marina. Cost for us at 12.2 Mtrs was Euro 23 for a night. Bumped into some folks later who explained that the northwest side as you enter, was free but minus water and elec. Looked like it could get bumpy there, but I didn't notice anyone rolling the night we were there.

Found Kos to be quite charming once you got away from the tourist traps near the waterfront and Greece, at least in the areas that we sailed, was way cheaper than Turkey!

Thanks for the very recent info........helpful.

Charge - in season - probably 1/2 price of marina
Berth - were mooring lines Tailed or did you have to use your anchor?

NW - agree - it is open to swell depending on conditions

Town - agree with your comments - had lots of time to roam the place in Nov (very quiet) while waiting to move over to Turkey.

I'm considering the Town for a quick stop to get C & I done then take off.

Anchor and stern lines. Other than the booth, no changes since we were there in 2006. Clearing in was certainly a breeze (even for a Sunday). Had dinner at Elia in the old town. Can certainly recommend it, and cheap to boot. Dinner for 2 with wine for Euro 23.

Sunday Check-In - Wow, and they did not charge double.......think I'll stick to a weekday and not use up any luck with the authorities......of course, staying away from lunch, siesta, whatever

Elia - Old town is a fun place to wander........will keep it in mind

In the harbour you pay nearly as much as in marina for what?????????no showers or toiletten !! on free bit outside Kostas Palace there is water from taps if you and/or chums have long enuf hose and its FREE!Or like us you get the Kaptan to fetch in 20 litre containers.We were there out of season 5 of us and I thought FULL!..in season there were 20+ v v full! not me fave but!!!ok for gratis!

All good points, and if I was going to stay longer than the time it takes to do C&I + maybe sleep one night then depart at first light - I probably would not consider. I'm not concerned with free water or any services.

I wanted the info just to consider as an alternative + the marina can fill up with no available slots..........and being jammed into most of their berths can also make departing early without the usual "cowboy" inflatable shoving a little tricky.
I've seen enough of Kos in 2 visits over the years so no need to linger.

Arrived No Problem

My goal remained the same -Get In and Get on my way.
Arrived from Bodrum, stopped at Fuel Station next to Marina to top off + fill spare jugs.
The last few days I inquired with Kos Marina about a side tie along their wall as it would be easier to leave unassisted. But the cost was too high and there were no open berths for tonight other than alongside.
So they reserved a space at the Old Harbour, I called on ch 74 after fueling up
and everything worked out fine.
Pls Note - You get privileges (showers, etc) at Big marina if you don't mind the walk, just take your receipt from the booth at the Old Harbor.
Just waiting for ferry passengers to clear Passport Control ( only one officer for 200 + people maybe more) - an Ouzo helps pass the time.

Elia's = great recommendation, relaxing and delicious

C&I = got Port Police, Passport Control and Customs done by 20:00(2 visits due to crowds) caution is to watch out for ferry day trippers who jam the process early am and early evening. Port Authority desk was not available late in evening but open at 8:30am. Pretty painless and allowed me to depart for my voyage west on schedule.
