I'm upgrading to a larger boat and Dad's helping with the finance (lucky me!). As he's retired he quite fancies a Westerly Konsort Duo or Southerly 100, as they are both quite roomy, have mod-cons like hot water, fridge, heating etc. and have steering inside. I quite like the Maxi 95/100, as they too are roomy, have a decent sized cockpit, wheel steering in the cockpit, an aft cabin plus a decent sailing performance.

So it comes to the crunch question - how do the Konsort/Southerly sail? The Konsort looks top heavy to me.

Anyone out there know either boat?

I suspect the handling of the Duo won't be significantly different to the ordinary Konsort; Westerlys are pretty stiff boats, so the extra tophamper probably doesn't have much effect. I followed one across the North Channel from Portpatrick to Bangor, and he didn't seem to have any bother with boatspeed under sail. The only criticism I can think of is that the cockpit is a bit small, as you would expect really.

HTH,

cheers,
david
