Know nothing needs big advice

Hi I just wish I had children like you.Do you want to be adopted because I don't want a new boat just some funds to help me make more use of it?
Every boat owner thinks his boat is the ideal for his purpose but goes to look at others just in case there is some spare cash and also to pick up some ideas which can be taken up,
I sail a Jeanneau 34 Sun Odyssey (Single aft cabin version) with just two of us on board. We have sailed from UK to Southern Spain and next season will be in the Med.We have plenty of domestic space and sufficient locker space for all our needs. She is a bit flighty and needs reefing early but all boats are a compromise.
Good hunting

Crikey!!!

You lot are a helpful bunch. Apart from GC1 wherever the heck he got to?

Thanks for all the advice including the person that thought I was a daughter. I can assure you I have all my own tackle and I dont use it for fishing if you know what I mean.

I will consider this "letting him choose his own boat" thing a bit more, but then that means I dont get the fun of choosing. And if Im about to shell out a mint then surely I can be a bit selfish? No, not really...

Im thinking to keep looking and find a few suitables which we can use as possibles for his surprise gift. Like, "Here dad were gonna get you one of these lovely boats" type thing.

Good work everyone. Be prepared for a thread entitled

. . . . . . . . . P O S S I B L E S . . . .

I thank you again.

I agree with everything said thus far about letting him choose the boat. I know full well that a plastic maggot would be awful for me, just as my first preference of steel would be dreadful for most. If your dad's an out & out individualist, it'll be even more important that he chooses it himself.
Do consider all boats though. Steel yachts tend to be more damage tolerant than plastic - a factor that was important for me when I was learning.

Richard.

Magazine story?

I think i'd trust the kids (with advice from swmbo) to buy me a boat. And definitely if they're paying, flippinek! What's dad gonna say - ooh yes thanks for not buying me a boat, yes yes, it wd have been dreadful to get one with the wrong shaped anchor and much better i buy the thing instead. Huh! He didn't choose his kids and that's much more important. So it'll be fine. Or it'll be fine for a while at the very least.

I also reckon the mags should follow him around buying a surpirse boat for someone else. Er actually that's quite a good idea, espcially for me...

You could work out a short list and take him along to look at them, letting him think he is there to give you some advice. After looking you could say "if you were buying which would you pick?"
